Virgin did not show the european champions league football on RTE2 on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
Does anyone know why this happened and if they are allowed to do this ?

Same thing happened all the time when RTE were showing Premiership matches. Sky blocked them. All to do with Pay-Per-view and contractual issues.0

Yep, it's common and totally legal. You also see it on Channel 4 in the mornings in reverse, they show Everybody Loves Raymond and it's blocked in ROI.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

I've always thought this was a bit funny. Afaik, people who have aerials don't get any programmes blocked. It just seems that the more we get, the more it's regulated.0

the difference is this has only started to happen and without any warning.
I noticed that the premiership on sat nights was also blacked out on rte.
both just in the last week.
Virgin can do what they want it looks like eg the £2.50 price raise in your bill.0 -
Does this mean that Virgin have broken their contract ?0

No, and this isn't the first time it's happened. When NTL were still showing Sky channels, they used to block the matches on RTE as well. They relaxed it quite a while back, and VM let it slide for a while, but if they're back to blocking, perhaps a new deal with Sky is in the offing?0

Been happening for years . Home and Away on RTE was blocked to viewers outside ROI . Nothing to do with NTL/Virgin Media , RTE sometimes just get the rights to show things in ROI .0
