Ladies - Heavy Periods, help :(
Comments

I suffer from the same thing, although at least its every four weeks for me. I'd advise you to go back to the doctors and tell them how bad it is again, especially if it's been a while since you last told them about it. I had really bad problems, although for me the pain was the worst.
My doc (male) was fab, said it wasn't something I should have to put up with and prescribed me with tablets that I take for a few days before and for the first few days of my period (don't want to post the name in case its classed as giving medical advice and anyway, I can't spell it :rotfl: , but its not a contraceptive) which has helped things a bit and made things more manageable.
He also checked for anaemia, which could be a problem with such heavy periods, and surprise, surprise, I was anaemic.0 -
Oh I am so sorry periods are a nightmare aren't they?
I haven't suffered with heavyness it's more the pain that got me but just keep going back to your GP and put pressure on them to do something else! I've suffered for about 10 years!! Finally got pills that sound similar to judgejaq and you take them for a few days before and during and not only have they helped with the pain but they are so light it's unbelievable.
Maybe worth trying gum iclinic f you have been to 5 GP's and no help!! you dont have to suffer like this there are treatments!!
Good luck

Hi Volta
I went through a time of heavy periods bit like you, except I wore super tampons and and couple of sanitary towels and leaked through within minutes etc. However, on further investigation by obs/gyn an internal scan revealed a polyp, which was removed. Slightly resolved the problem for a little while, went back a couple of years later, to find another polyp. This was removed and because of my age I opted for a mirena. Which hasn't been entirely satisfactory, but is much better. It apparently stops/hinders the delveopment of polyps, to which I am pre-disposed. I hope you get referred to the hospital, because I am sure they will at least be able to dispel any major problems, or even resolve them. Hope you get sorted, and I really do empathise with you x0 -
I had constant heavy bleeding for about 15 years(i bled 24/7 no days off),saw numerous doctors etc but nothing was actually done until about 18 months ago when i finally saw a new gynaecologist after being a regular visitor to the colposcopy clinic(smear tests always came back with pre-cancerous cells) who was wonderful.
I had loads of tests, scans etc done and we talked through what he told me was my only 2 options left available to me which were either a hysterectomy or an endometrial ablation.I opted for the endometrial balloon ablation which i had done last April.
Obviously this procedure is no good for women still wanting children but i had decided a few years ago i didnt want anymore.
I was also sterilised and had all the pre-cancerous cells from my cervix removed and a series of biopsies done at the same time as the balloon ablation.
Well here i am a year on and feel like i have my life back,no bleeding at all within these 12 months and its fantastic.
Keep on pushing to see someone else or demand to be referred to the hospital until you find out if there is anything wrong and you get the treatment that works for you.
Good luck"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
i have the same problem as you but i had a mirena coil fitted in november and since february i have been bleeding every day.
the doctor is very surprised that i am still bleeding as i have a coil as it should have eased it the doctor thinks that i may have fibroids and has referred me to the hospital and i have had a letter but there is a 5 month waiting list so in the meantime i have to put up with it.
it is driving me mad hopefully one day soon i will have a week without bleeding
btw i am 36.
i wish you good luck and hope you get it sorted
as this forum shows there are lots of women who are or who have been in the same situation

I have been on the pill for 4 years now and my periods have been very vaired.
Some months they have been almost non-existant but I am in the middle of a heavy one now with lots of back ache and cramps
I am coming off the pill and having the mirena coil fitted very soon I hope (got appointment to discuss this next week) I just hope this works, the last (non hormone) coil I had led to 9 weeks of relentless heavy bleeding, not something I want to repeat.
I have had iron tests which show I'm quite anaemic even though I am taking iron tablets every day, men have it so easy don't they!? Maybe get your iron levals checked too?
Maybe the Mirena coil would be worth a shot for you aswell?

Hi ya Volta,
I totally agree with all the ladies here!
I have been there myself, i leaked on a bus once on the way to work! Not nice...luckly I always had a change of clothes in my bag for emergencies. But i was lucky as i didn't start having heavy bleeds until i was 37 and I was diagnosed very quickly with fibroids! Big ones! I decided to have a hysterectomy which has given me my life back! It wasn't an easy decision as i had no children, and now will never be able, but it was worth the price.
Anyway back to you! You need to see a gynaecologist, please demand a referral! You need to have an abdominal scan. Also if you are not allergic, get a good quality iron suppliment, you must be so anaemia ( do you get breathless very easily, tired etc). I can't understand why any of those dr have not sent you for tests!
Also do you have clots? I used to get clots as big as my palm (no kidding) Something i found out if I did not get as many clots if i didn't use tampons, tampons made me bleed even heavier! Also have you tried using towels for bladder control! It sounds weird but because they are for holding more liquid, so seem to be better! I used them on my particulary heavy days! Also (which i have never tried, but I could see how they work, adapting a babies disposal nappy, again they a made to hold a lot more liquid than a normal towel.
One other thing get on the internet and look for forums about heavy bleeding, talking to other women helps loads and gives you tips on how to cope!
If your gp won't refer you, either go to your family planning clinic and speak to them or i would find the name of your gyno doctor at your local hospital and write to them directly.
There are soo many treatment out there when you find out exactly what the problems are!
Please dont hesistate to send me a message if you just feel like having someone to talk to! I totally understand how these things take over your life!
Take care
