My Laptop Battery Doesn't Work!

I have had my laptop for a few years, but until now have never needed to use it without the AC power supply.
The battery does not appear to charge at all, and from what I can remember, it never has.
When I go into Power Options, the battery shows as charging, but never moves from 0%.
Any ideas gratefully received! x

But it has never worked, that is what I don't understand? I would agree if it had worked before xGone ... or have I?0 -
Assuming the battery connections are good, it's either the charging circuit or the battery, either way you are a bit stuffed after 3 yrs.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

My first post saying a few years is exaggerated when I think about it. I got the laptop about 18 months ago, but haven't really used it until the last six months (it was just a secondary one until then, I got it as a freebie through work).
Any ideas on how I would eliminate the above options without having to spend anything?!!
If I do need to replace either, I am going to the States soon, will I pick up the part cheaper over there?
Thank you! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Without another machine or battery available, it's difficult, you could stick a multimeter on the charging pins, to see if there is any voltage there.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
