I am looking for a good make of hair colour with minimum damage on my hair/scalp. :undecided Any suggestions for deep conditioning will be a MASSIVE help. Thank you.

I'd suggest henna personally. Lush do a good one for about £6 (four different colours) and if you have thinnish or short hair it will do two applications. It makes hair look thicker and I think the ingredients are a lot kinder to sensitive scalps...0

Thank you Belfastgirl, can I still apply Henna even though my hair has previously been coloured/highlighted? If so, where do I buy this make? The possibility of colour choice sounds great.
I used to have a really healthy hair but I have NO idea how it thinned down so terribly quickly
Is their any product that reverses damage to the scalp, etc?0 -
I'm not sure about the previously coloured hair issue since my scalp is so sensitive that I've only used henna for years. Maybe try a patch test?
On the thinning hair it might be worth checking in with your doc. I have a friend who had this and it turned out to be PCOS in the end. It could also be some kind of hormonal thing or something.
The other thing is if you are having scalp problems are you allergic to anything in shampoos? I coloured my hair a lot as a teenager and ended up allergic to nearly all shampoos. I can't use anything with SLS in it. Might be worth picking up an SLS free shampoo in a healthfood store just to see if it helps.
On the conditioner front I find Boots' own brand henna conditioner is very good (it's in a pot and is a pinky brown colour). Normally I use the LUSH henna hair dye and then rinse it out and put on the henna conditioner while I have a bath, then wash out with shampoo (I know it's the wrong way round but it works for me!) Leaves my hair nice and soft and manageable...0 -
Belfastgirl, Thank you so much for your very helpful post. There is a lot of sense in suggesting seeing a GP again. I will also try the shampoo you recommended and definitely do the patch test. I have to be patient I suppose. Many thanks again for your advice. Much appreciated.0

let me know how you get on!0

Just a word of warning... I read on the back of my hair dye pack that you can't use hair dye after using henna, so I suppose you would have to grow the henna colour out before attempting a "fake" dye.
I have a really sensitive scalp and use Boots own hair dye's.They are cheap, do a good job and don't irritate me.0 -
Thank you Essexgirl and Belfastgirl.
Yes I am not sure whether I would be able to get some highlights after using Henna. I would like to get my hair highlighted it when it gets stronger.
I have just come across Daniel Field colours. The site states that they are organic and permanent. I have never tried this brand or heard of it to be very honest. Could not find any reviews either. I emailed to explain about my scalp condition and to ask for a suggestion for getting rid of the brassy red tone in my hair. My hair once turned jet black when I applied ash brown
You can't get lighter with this colour, since it is ammonia-free but I would be happy with getting back my natural brown colour. I will keep you updated if I get any advice.0 -
I have really fine hair anyway but last year my hairdresser noticed it was looking as if it was breaking off. she said it looked like the hair of someone on chemotherapy!
Eventually got a referral to a dermatologist as my GP agreed there was a problem. He asked if I'd had blood test for anaemia and I told him these were normal but he tested me to see what my actual iron levels were like as apparently your haemoglobin level cab be good but your iron levels low causing problems including hair loss. The result came back with an iron level of 14 when it should be at least 40+! Since the I've been on iron tablets three times a day and my hair is much improved and my iron levels are also up to about 70 and the doctor said that they worry when they hit the high teens.
So i suggest getting your GP to check not just your full blood count but also iron levels as this is apparently a fairly common problem and indeed someone I know had exactly the same problem.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Torry, Thank you. My scalp damage may well be due to health isues. I guess stress-related since I am a worrying student . I actually saw 2 doctors and they only prescribed some gentle shampoo!!! I did blood test and the iron level seems ok
I was actually hoping that it is a biological problem since it can be tackled but!!!! Sigh.
Ok Daniel Field site did not bother to reply, and so I changed my mind about using their products/services. I am just impatientbut I also think that two working days is plenty of time for a business to respond.
I bought a semi-permanent colour 'Loreal Casting cream gloss (Praline shade)' I have basically brown (brassy :ohair) but I guess I have no choice but to experiment. If anyone had a bad experience with this shade/make, please do alert me since I hope to apply it tonight!!! I also got 3-minute aussie conditioner, a bottle of almond oil and a pot of virgin olive oil for hair, and I hope to start the recovery soon. I also have an appointment with my hairdresers tomorrow so that I can consult him if anything goes wrong. Can't wait to rehighlight my hair!!! Thanks guys for your help.0 -
Also to add that I find diet definitely affects my scalp. If I eat a lot of refined carbs and sugar and not so much fruit and veg my scalp problems get a lot worse. Just saying it's worth keeping an eye on...0
