I really feel like I am learning to be os - today I nearly bought `taste the difference`orange juice at £1.99 ( old ways of shopping!) but put it back down and bought 69p own label orange juice and a 39p jug to put it in. Was really pleased to be os at that point. Choice yes, but to much choice got me in debt in the first place!
Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.
  • I like being os, always have been really. I refuse to pay the exhorbitent price that bread is now. But I was a bit fed up today, when I got back from my 8 hour shift and had to put dough in the bread maker as my ds never stops eating. I thought I had made enough yesterday for tomorrows sandwiches.
the thing is that I had to do it straight away or I wouldn't have time to make cook and cool them.
I do get great satisfaction when I have a weekend off from making a load of soup, scones, cakes etc in large amounts and freezing them before the kids eat the lot.
I especially enjoyed picking wild cherries last summer and making jam. I also made some more recently from the ones I froze so have not had to buy any jam this year.
I also have a vegetarian in the house so have to think a bit more about what to cook, and with a small oven it is sometimes a bit of a chore.

My children still remember coming home from school and having some HM cheese scones, pancakes or if they were lucky, sponge cake. I don't bake much now but I'm going to start again as I always buy chocolate biscuits etc for visitors (honestly) as I'm one of these sad people who think they've failed if someone arrives unexpectedly and I don't have anything to go with tea or coffee. Now that food's going up I'm reverting back to HM biscuits etc and will freeze what I can. Even if I won the lottery I'd rather give to charity than waste it on designer stuff so I'm definitely an MSE-er and won't change.
