some help needed

My 19 year old daughter has been told by her "employer" that as far as he's concerned she is classed as self employed. She has been with him since Sept last year and this only came out in February this year. I have some idea about filing returns etc and I understand this will be necessary. My main question is connected to expenses, her job requires her to be mobile, travelling to different schools and sports venues to coach children and I presume that sshe will be able to claim some sort of mileage allowance for this but can she claim a proportion of the cars other running costs ie tax insurance servicing etc.
I am already aware that it may be that the IR may not be happy classyfing her as self employed but that is her bosses opinion and I have to be careful as she needs the job
Any advice greatfully received

I definitely wouldn't accept that she is self employed. This is a classic way for bad employers to shirk their responsibilities to pay for holidays, sick, maternity, etc etc.
She should ask to see a copy of the HMRC ruling from the status Inspector which states she is self employed. If she is an employee, then she need not worry about all the other things you are asking. If she is self employed, then she has failed to register within the 3 mths required and so is potentially open to a penalty - it is therefore really important that she sorts out her status now as lots of other things hang on it.
