Hey All,
Im on a big spree to save money to pay off mine and the OH's debts before saving for our first house!
Problem: Ive been invited to an all expenses paid day at York races, the only thing I need to sort out myself is my outfit! Im all for saving money at the moment so ive decided to use some of the clothes ive got to see if I can come up with a gorg outfit :undecided
My idea so far is to use a plain black satin corset ive already got and to use a satin dress which ive never worn (and to be honest prob never will as it doesnt fit prop and I dont really like it, major impulse buy!) and try and turn the dress into a skirt? I was also thinking of putting more layers of that meshy stuff under the skirt to bulk it out a bit and make it look way better (it already has one layer but looks a bit feeble!)
Does anyone know how id make this dress into a skirt, but so it doesnt look homemade! At the moment its a halter neck that goes in on the waist then out with net underneath, any advice would be great as im stuck for other ideas! Thanks all x

Personally - I would sell the dress on Ebay and buy something! But then I've never been any good at sewing! Anything friends could lend you?0

I tried selling it on ebay a couple of months ago, but to be honest its not that expensive to buy and even at £20 I wouldnt be able to buy myself something else for the races with that (i wish!) Also I dont really like borrowing clothes especially when it comes to expensive dresses for the races just in case something happens to it0 -
Fair enough. I'm sure someone will help with sewing on here - or try the OS Board!
(woops - I spend so much time jumping I didn't see this was already on the OS board - just ignore me! long day!)0 -
Does it have a zip anywhere (for example, it will be more difficult if you have a zip that goes above and below the waist level?)
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I bought a satin evening skirt on ebay for about £6 plus postageIt's the kind of thing people wear once a year and sell so you can pick up some bargains.
I also recently got a lace monsoon evening dress from a charity shop for £5working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Just an idea..but can you not put the corset over the dress? I've seen people do this before and i think it looks nice. x0

I'd have a look round your local charity shops. You'd be surprised at the good quality stuff people donate, especially things that are one or two wearings only.
I'm not sure about the outfit you describe actually, as it sounds more like a ball gown than an outfit for a day at the races. Never been though, so I might be wrong about that.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I dont think it does have a zip, but ill have to have a proper look at it when I get home.
Ive just been looking at satin pencil skirts on ebay and seen some nice ones, think that might look a bit more sophisticated with the basque and just dress it up a bit, the skirt is only £15 suppose thats not as bad as buying a whole outfit!0
