Using UK Freeview in ROI

My old man was asking me about this. Apparently you can use a UK Freeview box in Donegal and possibly other border counties and beyond as well. This all sounds well and good - but is there some hidden law in amongst all the smallprints that might deem this illegal??? Or am I being just too much of a pessimist?!

Declan,
I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem. If you buy the UK Freeview box and it works in Donegal, then well and good. I think you will also find that a few people use the new sky UK freesat card in Ireland - I'm not sure if this is strictly legal though.0 -
This will work perfectly, especially on the Movile to Greencastle coastline as you have clear sight of the Limavady Transmitter, unfortunately the stroke city transmitter is not digital at present so does not bradcast freeview and they are in no hurry to change it as most in the city can get a signal form Limavady, except me of course
Receiving it in Donegal is no more illegal than getting BBC and ITV on the analogue signal or getting RTE up north, we all pay our respective TV licences
A friend of mine in greencastle got a box and I got him a good signal from Limavady using a pretty standard aerial, hes as happpy as a pig in :rotfl:I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Good news! In-laws are moving from England to Donegal (Moville area). Main concerns seem to be that they must be within half an hour of a Sainsburys and that their Freeview box will work!0

Sainsburys only half an hour away in Derry!
On top of that they'll still be able to use their UK mobile phones (dependant on where in Moville they're moving to).
My Mum is a Vodafone IE user, the Vodafone UK signal drowns out the Irish one every time in Moville!0 -
