Well it is rated a 12A ! (13 with Parental guidance in the USA and 15A in Ireland)
On this basis at 10 and a half she can see a 15
and at 13 and a half then X-rated 18 would be "OK"

Where did I say this
There are many films that are 12A that my DD watches with me. Get Smart is a great example of a 12A that was perfectly fine for younger kids.
I work in the Arts and my DD has been going to live theatre since I can remember; we saw Romeo & Juliet last week and there were bits in it that you might have deemed unsuitable for her age group but I think of the experience as part of her cultural education and allow for those occasions in my decision making.
She loved The Duchess and was fascinated with the costumes and the music. She loved the fact that she recognised Bath from the film and said "Mummy, it still looks like that doesn't it". She wanted to come home so we could go through pictures we took when we were there so she could point out the similarities. She wanted to know why the duchess let Bess stay (in her own words) when she has spoiled things for her. She wanted to know why the duchess wore all those layers when they left marks and welts on her skin. She wanted to know who Simon was that I was going on about and I mentioned that he was an actor that she has actually seen live on stage and is AD of Complicitie. And because of her continued interest in things other than Hanna Montana and HSM, I will continue to introduce her to things that I deem suitable. And no, that doesn't include, as you implied, !!!!!!.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -

I saw 'The Duchess' last night on free tickets at the local Vue cinema, great film, a little sad, but great costumes and locations. It was a 12A and I'm not entirely sure about that rating as there was a couple of implied sex scenes (nothing much visible but very implied) that I'm not sure a younger child would be comfortable with.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. More Pineapple express tickets as above post 28 (and posted on Ukhot deals by choc1969) but new code at Screenfirst is 4875010

I have managed to attend one screening so far this year as tey are all full when I try to get tickets but when I went t the cinema, it was ony 1/3 full. I think they should print our names with the tickets or scan them so they know who keeps booking and not showing as it is not fair on others who do want to go.0

See film First takes the opinion that if peopel get tickets then decide they don't want to go they can't really be held responible for it. I think that they have so many screenings on the go that they just take it as it comes.0

I have just returned 2 tickets to see Pineapple Express at the Vue cinema, Plymouth for 8th September. Think the code I used is 970835, but check earlier listings.0

I get the impression that every single boy in my son's class has seen the Transformers movie - that's also a 12A. They are only 6.
So was Indiana Jones which he saw twice as he loved it so much.
I thought The Duchess was a little slow moving for a child perhaps, but understand that we all have differing tastes.
The "A" is to advise that children under 12 can see the film accomanpied by a parent/adult.
The "12" is to advise that children over 12 can see it unaccompanied."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
