The recon phones from Virgin are perfect, although the box they come in says reconditioned all over it.
I bought a couple of Sendo M550s for next to nothing, at one point Virgin were giving £15 credit if you were a student so I bought them in my sons name who has a student card.

I too have bought a couple of reconditioned phones from Virgin and they have been great. Next day delivery also includes a Sunday, I ordered on a Saturday and it came next day, now that is service.
Also bought a fairly basic reconditioned Sagem camera phone from Vodafone through a post here for £30 and it was perfect too.0 -

My reconditioned Sendo's came unlocked although of course they are still branded as Virgin phones.
I had a Virgin phone previously and they will automatically unlock their phones with no problem once you have bought £30 of credit from them. What I did in that instance was to top the phone up to £30 as soon as I bought it then had the phone unlocked. I then used the phone for myself with a Vodaphone sim and used the sim card in an older spare phone for the children as an emergency phone.
