Council Tax and Electrocal Register

All,

I currently live alone and enjoy the benefits off 25% discount on my council tax for being single.

However my partner is going to move in with me in the next month and wants to apply to be on the Electrocal Register at my address now. Will this flag up with the council tax people? I know when she does move in I will have to inform them but can she get things sorted for the electrocal register now?

Cheers

It has the potential to flag up, but I very much doubt in real time. I suspect they don't do a matching exercise that often.

    But ICBW.

unlikely as there is not meant to be a link between the two. there was a law change a couple of years ago which prevents council tax offices accessing electoral rolls ad hoc. we now have to jump through a few more hoops.
it's not the council's fault your band is wrong, blame the Valuation Office !!!!!

I didn't know that, I've always assumed if you pay council tax then you are automatically put on electoral role and vice versa.

YOU must pay the full amount from the date your partner moves in.

if you don't and they find out they will ask for it to be paid back.

nope, not at all and never has been the case. grown up children who live with their parents for example, would appear on the electoral roll but would not need to be registered for council tax
