PC won't switch on

Have you taken it to a local shop to get them to have a look? If your power supply is faulty it can be replaced very cheaply, even motherboards can be replaced quite cheaply.
I take it that you are not getting any beep's from the machine when you turn it on? Most machines will report a problem via a series of beeps.0 -
No I haven't took it anywhere, I can't do this until the weekend so hopefully will get the chance to on Saturday.
No beeps are heard, it doesn't even switch on, as I said when I press the power button nothing happens. The button normally turns blue and the PC starts up, but nothing happens when I press it now.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions (apart from jje - your reply meant nothing to me lol!), it seems then that it's nothing simple I can do myself after trying the above tips, so I will have to take it to someone. Boo hoo not very MSE!0 -
Not really money saving but you cannot always fix it yourself. Have you checked that the Powerswitch is still attached to the motherboard?0

if you are only wanting to get the files from the old computer to a new one,buy an external hard drive housing. They can plug in via a usb socket.
You need to open the case to get the old harddrive out of the old computer. If it has a big flat plastic ribbon connected to it,it is probably an IDE hard drive,so you need a housing for IDE drives. Open the new external harddrive casing and push the connectors (2 of them)onto the hard drive you removed from the old computer. Put the lid on and plug it all in.Read the drive from the new computer. An external hard drive casing will be cheaper than getting some shop to fiddle about with it if you arent going to be using it anyway once you get the new computer.0 -
Hi, my mother had this problem about a month ago and wanted to get a new PC. The green flashing light was on the back of the PSU which had failed.
New PSU cost £15ish - no need to copy hard drives or anything!
Worth a try.....0
