Hi Persolv, contact CCCS/Payplan for further advice. All the best Lenn

    Hello Lenn
Ive already been in touch with CCCS scotland and they advise a trust deed or DAS(debt arrangement scheme similiar to the DMP)with BR a possibility
At the moment im bending towards a trust deed but a big part of me wants to pay every single penny back but on balance i dont want this to trail on for years as its having a big effect on my wifes health.

    Cheers Mate

    Hello cupid
thanks for taking the time to view my SOA and very much appreciated

telephone is fairly high as i talk most nghts with my wife(tried linking up msn messenger to a microphone but the connection i have is very suss and keeps losing words

Ill ask my wife to look into what packages virgin have

Contents insurance...we have very little of value but yes i think wed better insure what little we do have

Other insurance £17.00 is for a basic life insurance policy for both of us(wife got good cashback via quidco and shes planning on doing a new one for cashback:p

tobacco....i already smoke roll ups but the figure is for both of us(but im not ignoring everyones point that stopping is the real solution)

Yes it is a balance that you have to strike that sits comfortably with you both. Check out what the BR guys advise, weigh up your options and go for it. Good luck Len

    Hiya sweetie,

What this boils down to honey is not about the numbers..yep

The most important thing is what you want to do and what - realistically - you can do.definately agree

You owe enough to get an IVA or the scottish equivalent - but how much will it cost to set it up? What's the timescale? And what are the long term consequences? Why would your prefer it to a DMP cost?dont know ....timescale?normally 3 years for a trust deed with around 60% pay back expected from creditors

You earn enough to pay your debts in a DMP. If you gave up smoking, cut back on the grocery bill, landline phone bill and found a better internet/ tv / phone deal then you could free up an extra £250+. and be debt free in about 3 years. But you have to want to do that.I was bogged down with the idea of BR or trust deed but since posting my SOA i now see this as a definate option and one i know my wife would prefer i think

Or you could go bankrupt - if you qualify. (not my area of expertise I'm afraid.)Still an option and the updated scottish laws have removed alot of the previous negatives

Ask yourself which approach seems the most attractive to you and why - and that'll show you the way forward. I ve got advice from CCCS and also alot of good feedback here also which ill draw a list up from then ill decide

Listen to what CCCS are telling you cos they have a better success rate than you do right now. ;):Dso many smart assed replies to this but so little time;):rotfl:

We considered an IVA, Bankruptcy and a CCCS run DMP before deciding to run our own DMP because I have a problem with delegation.:o :D (Control freak moi?) I dont think its anything to do with being a control freak its what was right for you

I thought the best way to make sure we never get into this much sh!te again is to be right in the thick of it every day until it's over. I wanted us both to really feel it.Its a fair point

If you're horrified by the very idea  then you know a self run DMP isn't for you so you can cross that option off the list.

    CCCS DMP?
    [strike]Self run DMP?[/strike]
    IVA?
    Bankruptcy?

That's one option ruled out, then.

After that, an old fashioned Pros and Cons list works for me hon.

    Love Jacks xxx :D

Thanks for all that Jacks and i appreciate the feedback

    Hi Persolv

Have read through both your threads and can't really offer much more than has already been pointed out:

Clearly the whole communications package needs looking into for the best option and as there are so many different ways/plans it will take a bit of time to identify the right package(s) for mobile/landline/internet/TV.

What about Skype instead of MSN or mobile communication or is signal too bad?

Does your current or future telephone plan enable certain frequent numbers (ie your mobile) to be put on special discounted rate (e.g. like BT friends and family?).

Are you on a water meter and if not, would it be cheaper to opt for this?

    Agree with gas/leccie switch.....

Can't remember..perhaps on other thread...are you registered with cash back sites like quidco for when you change insurance/phones etc?

Ref: groceries and petrol...do you purchase all through eg Tesco with clubcard to take advantage of points/cashback/special offers? also worth looking at Aldi and Lidl's for groceries

Can't comment on best option such as DMP/IVa etc as out of my experience.

Finally...know it's difficult....but good luck kicking the weed...My stopping day will be 26th April this year.....a saving of £1500+ per year for me....you too!!

All the very best with your efforts....and please do keep coming back here for support...you've found the right place!!

Clearly the whole communications package needs looking into for the best option and as there are so many different ways/plans it will take a bit of time to identify the right package(s) for mobile/landline/internet/TV.Im going to talk to my wife on this as shes much better than i at deal finding for household things when she puts her mind to it

What about Skype instead of MSN or mobile communication or is signal too bad? Ive tried skype also but the real problem is im on the wireless connection in the hotel i work in and its a very weak signal

Does your current or future telephone plan enable certain frequent numbers (ie your mobile) to be put on special discounted rate (e.g. like BT friends and family?).truth is im not too sure but i definately need to get my act together on this

Are you on a water meter and if not, would it be cheaper to opt for this?i honestly dont know anything on this(Im not even sure if we have water meters in scotland:o)

    Agree with gas/leccie switch.....yep

Ref: groceries and petrol...do you purchase all through eg Tesco with clubcard to take advantage of points/cashback/special offers? also worth looking at Aldi and Lidl's for groceries my wife does have a clubcard with tescos but with me away from home its really hard for her to get to anywhere but tescos(she does nt drive)

Can't comment on best option such as DMP/IVa etc as out of my experience.i know no one can decide for me but the feedbacks been great on this point and its clarified alot

Finally...know it's difficult....but good luck kicking the weed...My stopping day will be 26th April this year.....a saving of £1500+ per year for me....you too!! ive wanted to stop for ages but (and i guess its an old excuse that does nt stand up to argument)ive put it off by justifying that theres enough stress already.....partly caused of course by the money smoking burns up!!!

All the very best with your efforts....and please do keep coming back here for support...you've found the right place!!

    Hey again sweetie,

I'm ever so pleased that you and your wife are giving all the options full consideration cos they all have pros and cons - and I'm really glad I didn't offend you with my cheeky CCCS comment! :D

I just wanted to make a suggestion on the Tesco front...

Since we've been debt busting, we've sold both of our fairly newish shinyish cars and bought one old diesel estate heap for £1k - and hubby has it from 7am until 8:30pm 5 days a week, and at the weekend he does gardening, little removals and clearance jobs in it for people.

So I hardly ever have access to a car, (which ir probably for the best as I am a rubbish driver anyway!) but I get my shopping delivered for free using codes from here:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=702329&page=30&highlight=tesco+code+no+chat

Delivery areas are usually pretty wide as Mr T has a policy of competing hard with other retailers for territory so hopefully this would work for you too.

Delivery is from £3.99 - £6.75 around here depending on when you have it delivered and I usually gor for the cheapest delivery and have a voucher for at least a fiver so I'm even making on the deal. :D

Plus... Since I joined the Grocery challenge and read lots of info on Moneysaving Old Style our monthly supermarket spend has dropped from £650+ to between £250 - £315 (except for Christmas! :o )

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=33

That extra dosh has made such a massive difference to our debt repayment rate I can't even tell you!

Anyway, I hope you're both feel a bit more confident that there's a solution for you, and less stressed out about it all.

    Love Jacks xxx :D
