Advice with mortgage problem

Hi All,
I came home from work today to find a letter from Nationwide about my mortgage payment holiday. This came as a bit of a shock as my husband and I know nothing about this, but apparently we have taken a 6 month payment holiday.
I rang Nationwide, the first lady on the phone laughed and asked if I was joking.....
I was then put onto a senior member of staff who confirmed that we indeed had been on a 6 month payment holiday from our mortgage. So I asked if he could send me a copy of the paperwork with our signatures on agreeing to this? They can't, they actually haven't got any!
So, I looked back through the paperwork & it seems someone took this out on our behalf, without written consent & now our mortgage has gone up £20 a month.
They are ringing me back tomorrow as I have told them this is unacceptable, I want to know who has processed this without authority.
I'm not actually sure where I stand with this, but would be interested in your thoughts, as you can imagine I am so  at the moment with them.

Apparently not....it normally comes out of my other halfs account, he told me he's been checking it, obviously not that thoroughly. I know it seems daft, but I don't go through his things and had no reason to disbelieve him.
Just annoyed this has happened in the first place, and they don't seem to have any permission.0 -
If they have done it without permission, they should be able to correct it. You will need to make a payment covering the missed payments and they can then alter the remaining payments back to the original level.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Are you sure he's not lying to you? Maybe he's got some financial problems and took out the payment holiday without telling you. It might seem unlikely, but if you look at the DFW board, people manage to hide debts of tens of thousands of pounds from their partners.
It's difficult to see why anyone else would take out a payment holiday in your name - after all, they wouldn't get any benefit, it would just mean that the money wasn't being taken out of your account.
Don't want to cause any marital problems but I'd have a quiet word with your other half.poppy100 -
Hmmm, that was my first thought Poppy but all organisations make clerical errors.
It could turn out, for example, that someone with a similar name as the OP requested the payment holiday.
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0 -

Even with a similar name, this is unlikely - they would have to provide an address and/or mortgage roll number that were consistent with the name given.
I think I would notice if my mortgage payment was not going out of my bank account each month...."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I think somebody need to sit down and have a long chat and a think!
