Hi,
I had a pre-paid meter up until 10 months ago but got it removed as scottish power put a new meter in and i went from putting £20 a week in to £70 a week and they said it had nothing to do with the new meter.
So in the meantime i have fell into really financial difficulties and in the last 7 months i have only paid £350 off my bills which has just came in again of at £1200 and i have just recieved a letter from a debt collection agency with a £250 charge, i have been intouch with Scottish power but they said i have to i need to pay £400 today and a further £191.00 a month, i told them of my difficulties but they said there is nothing else then can offer me ???
Anyone got any suggestions, apart from its your own fault

Do you really mean 70 a week for electricity?
that 3,500 per annum and an absurd amount.
Have you checked the meter reading?
If it really is reading that then there is clearly something wrong with the meter.
Also can you post up a full SOA0 -
yes it was £70 a week it jumped upto thats why i had the pre-payment meter out0

That bill amount is crazy - what type of property do you live in? Do you have gas?
Does the serial number on your bill match the one on your meter?
Was the meter taking £70 a week due to a debt being set on it?
I would advise taking a reading every day at the same time for the week to see how many units you are using per day. Armed with this info you should be able to get your supplier to launch a consumption investigation
Best of luck - keep us posted

I know what you mean, I was in the same boat when I moved into my new house it's a two bed flat and the bills were rediculous, I asked loads of times to set up a direct debit to make it cheaper and to change my tarrif but they wouldn't give me any information at all. I've changed supplier but still have about £500 to pay to them.
I don't really know what to suggest it's like banging your head against a brick wall with these people, I thought there was something wrong with my metre too but when I canged supplier the bills dropped by half!
Hope you can sort it out.0 -
Thanks lydsmom
but i thought you couldnt change suppliers if you had a debt with one ?0 -

I don't know, I managed to sign up with Southern Electric who didn't have a problem with it, I still have to pay Scottish Power but it means my electric is much cheaper, which is a relief when there is no gas in the flat. I sent Scottish Power a letter showing income and expendature and told them how much I can pay...I'm waiting to hear back frm them...0
