I always found them a really amateur setup right from day 1. I wouldn't be surprised if they did go bust!

I ordered a TV through them a couple of years back which they insisted was in stock. Two weeks later I was still waiting .... then another 2 weeks! Having called them several times, they said it was ready for dispatch. Eventually, they admitted that they couldnt get it from the manufacturer at the agreed price for at least 4 weeks .... I cancelled my order and I have never dealt with them since!

Their Crawley shop was closed a couple of days ago when I went past.

Went past the Crawley shop again this lunchtime. The shutters are down and all the stock appears to have been stripped from the shelves. Their "Sony Centre" (all owned by the same company) also has the shutters down and a hand-written note dated last Friday says "Closed for stocktaking".

Guess they must have gone bust then.... shame... friendly staff and got some good bargains from there over the years.

    Are you sure about this?
The finance company will have paid Unbeatable so you will owe the money whether the goods turn up or not UNLESS there is a cooling off period for cancelling the finance.
I would make enquiries post haste!

  • thanks to the bbc ...

Under the Consumer Credit Act 1974, certain credit agreements can be cancelled provided there were face-to-face negotiations before the agreement (the place where these took place is immaterial) and you did not sign the agreement on the trade premises of the creditor or supplier (e.g. you signed at home or in your office).

However, you do not have long to cancel because the cancellation period ends five days after you receive the second copy of the agreement, which the creditor is obliged to send you. You must cancel in writing.

Where goods are bought on credit at a distance (e.g. over the Internet) you have a right to cancel under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2002. This cancellation period lasts at least 7 days after the day on which you receive the goods, but could be longer. If you cancel under these Regulations any related credit agreement would be automatically cancelled too.
  • In addition if you purchased on credit ...

    Consumer Credit Act 1974 (CCA74)

Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 states that the lender of money for a purchase is jointly responsible with the seller for the purchaser getting the goods or service purchased, or receiving a full refund if they do not receive the goods or service. What this means in practice is that if you paid more than œ100 by a UK issued personal credit card (but not a debit or charge card), or borrowed money under a loan agreement regulated by the CCA74, then you can claim ALL the money you paid (irrespective of how you paid it) back from the card company or lender if you do not get what you bought.

So get in contact with the HP company or credit card company as long as it was over £100 - to be honest even if under £100 still contact the credit company
