O/S Buffet Ideas

Hi All

I am looking for a bit of inspiration for some old style cheap buffet ideas.

My husband plays bowls and as the captain of the team he is leading by example and doing the first after match buffet - this usually includes sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps etc. for about 20 people.

We get reimbursed £6 for doing this and I wondered what the most cost effective way of doing this buffet would be so I don't leave myself out of pocket.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, 30p per head - tricky  . Okay I'll have a go.

    Shopping list:
2 x loaves medium sliced bread £1.30 (check at least 20 slices per loaf)
    500g Spread (e.g. Sainsbury sunflower) 62p
Cheese for grating 60p (buy a chunk and save remainder for home use)
Half cucumber 35p (slice as thinly as possible)
Wafer thin cooked ham (2x70g for £1 at Sainsbury currently) £1
    2 x 12-packs Sainsburys Basics snacks 98p
Ingredients for Weetabix cake, using Basics where available 80p (see recipe on here somewhere)
    Jar Basics pickled onions 32p
    Jar Basics sweet pickle 26p
    Total: £6.13

Make up one loaf of grated cheese & cucumber sandwiches, cut into quarters, and the other loaf with the ham. Put pickles into serving dishes with forks or spoons. Cut Weetabix cake into 20 slices (10 slices halved) and put on serving plate. Pile bags of snacks into baskets on the table.

Each person gets four little sandwiches, with pickles if wished, a slice of cake and bag of crisp type things. No sausage rolls sorry, unless you can make or buy some out of your own money. I suggest you ask your husband to review the £6 at his next committee meeting! :D
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

You could get some french loaves, cut them into thin diagonal slices and do open sandwiches (one bit of bread then a topping - could be a ham slice plus some salad or egg mayo or grated cheese mixed with carrot). Stick the fillings in tubs then assemble before hand rather than transport them.

Mini pizzas if you want to do some baking (or use french slick slices again). These can be very economical as they don't need much in the way of topping.
