Wedding gift wish list

We are getting married in July and have a gift list dilemma / problem / challenge!
We have spent 2 years renovating an old house and the last big job to do is to add a conservatory. Instead of asking those who want to give gifts to buy us crockery and cutlery (which is, lets face it, nice but not all that useful in the grand scheme of things), we thought about asking people buy us bricks, a bag of concrete, a pane of glass etc etc.
I need to find a website or some way of setting up a gift list whereby guests can 'give' these items. The Confetti Wish List card seemed perfect but have just been discontinued. Does anyone know of any schemes that are reliable and don't charge outrageous fees? I am hesitant to set up a bank account for people to pay in to as this seems a bit blatant and demanding.
Gift lists make me a bit uncomfortable but in reality most guests will want to buy you something and its better to have something you will really appreciate than lots of picture frames (my sister got 3 blenders for her wedding....).

Any ideas would be much appreciated, cheers.

Try www.thebottomdrawer.co.uk as they may do what you are looking for. Just watch out for the fees they charge! We thought about using them but in the end my sister is maintaining a list for us, and everyone has been asked to check with her before buying anything!!

  • Thanks for the suggestion.
We looked at the bottom drawer. They take 8% of the total 'raised' plus charge everyone using the site 2.75% for using their credit card too. Everyone needs to make a profit but we think thats a bit steep for what they're providing. Having someone else look after the list could work though...

Could you ask for B&Q vouchers or would that not work? Or vouchers for antoher store to buy furniture for the conservatory, pictures, curtains etc?

I have to say I would probably go with the savings account idea. I wouldn't be offended if I was in the position of your guests.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

MSE Aim: To have more "thanks" than "posts"! :T

Savings Account or if you know the company you are buying the conservatory from, maybe they could be asked to issue 'gift vouchers' aginst your bill?

    Have a lovely wedding

I read somewhere that you could ask the guest to give cash donations, have a wishing well box they could put the envelopes in and if you wanted it could even be anonymous donations incase some people could only give alittle.

Can't remember where I read this but this was the gist of it, other wise I would go for vouchers either from the company or from B&Q.

We are going for vouchers from a massive shopping centre close to where we live so we can then spend the voucher in any shop we like and we or the guest do not get charged any interest, we also get little cards to send out with the invites
