Hi, first post! Have hunted around and cant find the answer.
I am recently self-employed and I have an office at home and business premises (workshop). Some days I work from home and some days I go to the workshop depending on what needs to be done so I dont need to be at my workshop every single day, but heres the question I do go there every day to check things are ok or have a clean up or just collect mail.
Can I therefore claim fuel for these journeys?
I also hire out the workshop so can I claim the journeys to open up & lock up?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi raf complicated one! Normally if you have a premisis you CAN'T claim millage allowence between your home and place of work. You can't claim your home as place of business as you have a dedicated premises for this. (was linked to a court case posted on a similar thread)
having said that if you rent out a property you can claim business milliage for journeys that are soley business related so if you ONLY travel to the workshop to open close up it should be allowable.
Like I said a little tricky, hope someone can clarify it a bit more for you.Debts as of 01/june/08
