Non Status (Debit Card) Account

Options
Hi all

I have been paying pro rata all of my some 40 dreditors for around 18 months now. Last week the Halifax decided to take £60.00 out of an account that I only use for online debit card purchases. I usually pay the money in over the counter and use the debit card the same day.
I sold an old printer on ebay and had the funds, through Paypal, transferred into the Halifax account, only £70.00. 2 days later £60.00 mysteriously gets taken out of my account. Halifax (Blair Scott Collections) told me that if I have money in the account then I can afford to pay my Halifax Visa bill so they took the money, I already have an arrangement to pay £11.04 a month to NCO Financial Services for the same debt, this is something which they chose to ignore.

Anyway I now cannot use this Halifax account as I am afraid they will take any money I put in there, however short the time it is in there.

Can anyone recommend a bank account with a debit card facility for persons with bad credit history? I will only want to use it for the debit card as I have my salary paid in a Nationwide account (who will not give me any further facilities apart from a Cash card!)

I have debts with the below banks so I dont think they will be suitable!;
NatWest
HSBC
Abbey National
Woolwich
Barclays (Barclaycard)
RBS

Thanks in advance of any help.

    I had a debt of £5k with Abbey (overdraft on current account) I spoke to them and opened an Electron Account with them, they agreed to take a certain amount from that account everymonth to repay the debt, they never took more than was agreed, even though some months I did a lot of ebaying and had £1k per month going through it.

    They have said that once the debt is clear, if I continue to use the account with £500 per month going through after a year they will upgrade it to a normal current account.

    Hope this is of use.

  • If you have been truthful and have an agreement that you have kept to without fail, then I would suggest contacting CAB.
    With your credit history I think it is unlikely that you will find a new bank willing to open an account with a debit card facility.
