    bump this up a bit
    😁
  • I'm a newbie too but have you looked at the April £10 a day thread, I reckon you have a pretty good handle on what you are spending now and have recognised the two areas that are costing you (tv and insurance). Perhaps bumping up your income just a little might help.

I have registered on quidco, loads of websites I already use are on there and just by clicking through you earn money back, or at least that's the theory. Other forum members seem to recommend it.

    Best of Luck.

I took out sky tv, talk and broadband and I pay less than you. I have the highest broadband at £10. I have sky sports and 3mixes totalling £36 for the tv. My monthly bill in total including calls last month was £53. So I would get back onto them no way do you have to have the highest package.

Forgot to say when we connected to sky we only had sports and 2 mixes I have upgraded to 3 for an extra £1 per month

I'm finding this place a little difficult to navigate at the moment! I'll get round to reading most of these posts soon I think!

I have plans to sell some things on e-bay which I need to get the motivation to do. I reckon that I could clear at least one of the credit cards this way.

I'm also in the process of starting my own photography business and have my first paying client in June and possibly a wedding (if they get back together) in August. That will probably clear the other credit card if I get my pricing right.

Do you know anything about blogging? I have a blog which gets some traffic. I wonder if I can get advertisements on it and make a few pounds there. I've heard it can be done, but I don;t know where to start with it.

I don't know what mix I have. As long as I get my animal shows, and documentaries I'm sure I can live with it for a while. I rarely watch any of the movie channels, and OH has lived without sports channels before.

I think that the frustrating thing is that we got a lot of stuff and pay over the odds because we could afford it at the time. You don't realise how much being made redundant can mess you up!

I'm just happy that I've never incurred bank charges/credit card charges etc! Working for a bank, I know it's a bit of a pain at the moment claiming those back!

    Hi and welcome :hello
I think you haven't had many replies to your post for 2 reasons:
    1) you seem to have posted in the middle of the night when it is quieter - if you can pop on earlier in the evening you may catch more people around
    2) you seem to have a good handle on everything and be doing all the right things- you have identified that you are paying over the odds for some things but know you can get them cheaper on renewal so definitely going in the right direction.

The only things that stands out to me is the mobile insurance - what are the chances you will loose it and claim and as you say can you not pick up a cheap sim and phone if you did sadly lose your other one? just keep a copy of your numbers somewhere just in case and the mobiles themselves seem quite high - have you checked to see what other networks are offering for the price and phoned your provider and say xyz is offering me the same amount of minutes for £15 or whatever, can you match them?

    Good Luck

My normal working hours are 1pm - 9pm. The past few weeks I've been doing 10am to 11pm shifts whilst there's overtime available. Unfortunately, posting in the early evening isn't an option. Maybe I'll get to do that this weekend whilst I'm off =)

I do know we have a fairly good hold of everything all things considered. With OH's pay decreasing it will mean we have to live on a tight budget for a while until we both progress our careers. That's what bothers me the most I think!

The mobile phone insurance can be cancelled. There's no need for it because when OH lost his phone he didn't claim. He took out another contract which really angered me! I keep my phone safe in my handbag, so I know I definitely don't need it. When I get 5 minutes, I'll be cancelling that. Whenever I'm available my banks systems seem to be down for updates, so I have to call the next day and I just forget!
