in Cutting tax
Hello..can someone please tell me,if a person who has always worked,my son for instance, gets divorced and lets his wife have the house which is now sold. He came to live back home with myself and his stepfather, and on and off has been ill with DVT ,Asthma.
The tax people have contacted him and because he refuses to claim any benefits, but still looks for work, they send him huge tax bills, which they add interest to daily.
I cannot understand why this can happen, can anyone explain please:o

It sounds as if he has been sent self assessment returns which he has not complated. Failure to complete SA's when they are issued will result in HMRC issuing estimated liabilities. Interest and surcharges will continue to accrue on these estimates until he completes the SA's.
He needs to make an appointment to go to see someone in his tax office who can explain what is needed and help him sort himslef out.
Don't ignore it because if he doesnt pay, the next thing will be a CCJ - and this situation is sort-able.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
Oh thank you so much for this,I'll make sure and tell him. He has always been scared to death of the taxman!0
