Teeth straightening

Hi all

does anybody have any advice for getting teeth straightened

having now finished uni and saved up some money i would like to look at getting my teeth sorted, i have wanted it done for years, i actualy had a brace when i was younger but they hashed it up and it left me in severe pain so i took it out, it left me with quite bad scaring on my gums and the dentist also agreed and has put me forward for NHS treatment because but i dont particularly want to wait 5 years just to get a assessment, my teeth are actualy in good condition, never had or needed a filling just need my wisdom teeth removing as they have grown odly and part of it is impossible to clean

so does anybody have any advise, there are 100's of private places now and tbh i dont know where to start, i have around 2-3k atm towards it but not sure what to look for, and the market seems to be getting more competitive

are there nhs subsidies available or anything else available

i would ask my dentist but she is part private and just pushes you onto her friend

the nhs, from what i know are really strict with "funding" for ortodontic work. for braces now i think it is £2k + but it would depend on where you go and how much work it is that you need. instead of asking the dentist, why not ask the receptionist? also, you say she'll pass you onto her "friend", a lot of dentists refer to just one or two orthodontists (i cant spell that lol), and at least you know that youre in safe hands.

The place to start is your own dentist.

This 'pushes you on to her friend' is called a referral!! It's what general dentists do when someone wants orthodontics. They refer them to an orthodontist.

If you don't like your dentist, then it's time to look for another one. If you don't like the orthodontist she refers to, then ask her if she has another 'friend' she can send you to.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Good place to look is http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/index.php ... lots of adults sharing their experiences - I'm one of them, and have now been in braces for 8 weeks and wish i'd done it years ago.
