will i get a rebate?

Well since April last year to April this year I havent earnt over 5220, my tax code is 522L I think. However I have been paying normal tax since last year...should I get all my tax that I've paid back, or nothing, or some? Cheers.

check your tax code ... a normal cumulative code of 522L would mean you paid no tax.

    Thanks for the reply.

Just checked my last wage slip, definitely 522L/1. And I definitely pay tax. Last month I paid 149.29 on 1216.66

That /1 is the culprit - you've been paying emergency tax.

You will get a rebate - but you will have to claim it, from your tax office

the /1 means that you are taxed on a month 1 basis i.e. the tax each month is based on your monthly salary rather than the total amount you have earned this year.

make sure this year's tax code doesn't have /1 after it.

Thanks for the replies - reassuring.

So can I only claim back the difference between emergency and normal tax, or am I due all tax back? A friend of mine at work says that my tax code is 522L so Is shouldnt pay tax on anything I earn below 5220...now in this tax year I havent earnt 5220 so am I not due ALL the tax I've paid back? Cheers in advance.

Cheers Clapton, just wanted to clear that up.

Is it an automatic thing or do I need to fill some forms out, phone the tax office etc?
