Credit Check for a Job

Hi,
Can anyone please help me.
I have been offered a new job and in my formal offer letter it was subject to security clearance, health check and refrences. All these checks have came back and they are fine. But then I got a letter the other day saying all new employees have to have a credit check, it did not mention this in the offer.
I'm really worried as i am about £5500 in debt, i have one CCJ and some arrears. I have worked payment plans out with all my creditors but they arent going to know that are they. Has anyone been in this situation or can anyone offer me advise?

Thanks

It will depend on the job.
If you are working in financial services then you must expect to be credit checked.
I think the same applies to the law profession.

They mainly do it to check that you don't have any Cifa's recored on your record and to ensure your not a high risk to their business if it deals in financial transactions. I've had them done in both my previous and current job. As per one of the other posts says, just be honest with them. Your debt doesn't sound that severe and you do have payment plans so you'll be fine :)
