Waitrose reduced multibuys

Went to get some reduced bargains and decided to do a multibuy.
£1.50 each, 2 for £2
ie -£1.50
so reduced to 30p ie 60p - £1.50 = -90p
However the girl entered them manually. The manager wouldn't void them to scan them properly and said people had been abusing it and it had been changed (ie no more multibuy on reduced to clear). But all the other items were scanned and the girl only did it manually as she was having problems getting the sticker off (ie didn't look like policy to me!) However I didn't want to create a fuss.
Does anyone know if this change really has been made at Waitrose?
Whilst I am at it, I dont feel guilty for doing this - if this is how their pricing works then am I supposed to avoid these deals? I only bought two and I actually wanted them!

Can't help with the policy/not policy issue, just had to point out that £1.50 each, Two for £2 equals -£1 not -£1.50!
(As two at £1.50 = £3) Sorry, not the point I know, just being pedantic!

For part of my time at Waitrose, we had to be very careful doing reductions as "buy two get one free" barkers would also say "save £1.50" (if for example the product was £1.50). This kind of meant legally if somone bought three we had to take £1.50 off, regardless of what was paid. When they were changed to the current style, they stopped putting this on them, but as the till system isn't very clever we still had to be careful! I don't work there any more (John Lewis now) but Waitrose will be getting a new till system next year which will probably sort this out.0
