Best way to cover stubborn greys in hair!

Options
Hey all

I have very dark drown hair, and any grey hairs that I get stand out awfully :(

I have tried colouring my hair with semi permanent/permanent/henna over the past 2 years but nothing will cover the greys!!

I'm only 26 but both my parents went grey young. I have lots of hair, cut in a short bob. Most of my greys are underneath but I find it really depressing when I spot them!

Can anyone recommend an dyes that work on very stubborn grey hairs?

I find that when i dye my hair it just doesn't "take" to the greys if you know what I mean, even those dyes that guarantee to cover 100% greys.

I tried henna last but again it didn't take. I don't particularly want to have to go to hairdressers every 6 wks for colour and nor do I want to go lighter.

TIA

    Hi
Well I dont know if my grey hairs are stubborn or not but my hair is light brown and I use Nice n Easy in Lt Golden Brown but if I leave it on for the recommended time, which is 25 - 35 mins I think, it goes a bit gingery. So I leave it on for at least 45 mins and it goes a nicer brown. It doesnt seem to do any harm leaving it on any longer, it hasnt fallen out yet anyway :D . So maybe you could try leaving a darker one on a bit longer.

    Hi ya flutterbyuk25,

Which shampoo and conditioner do you use?

I had the same problem with hair dye not taking properly. I used to use Loreal Elvive which leaves a bulid up of silicone on your hair that stops a hair dye from penetrating properly. So I stopped using it and went to a bog standard Asds Tea Tree and Mint shampoo and conditioner. That hasn't got anything in it to build up iyswim.

Dyed my hair 2 weeks ago and it took really well. I left it on a bit longer than I should have but it got all of my hair whereas before I'd be left with a number of unsightly greys.

Alot of shampoos have silicone in these days. My hairdresser said that even salon dyes don't always take properly because of it.

henna will only put a reddish tone onto the hair, so if the hair is grey/white it will go a bright orange/pink colour. it is not a perment hair colourant, and will react with other hair products containing chemicals.
I would lokk at deep cleansing you hair as the maybe a build up of product causing a barrier.
If not you may just very resistant grey hair. If this is the case as a hairdresser Iwould pre sofen the hair with peroxide ( do not try this at home)
Normally use for a full salt and pepper coloured head of hair.
If you want to have it done proffesionally cheap. Why not go to you local hairdressing college? A full head colour and blow dry £15 or they may beable to weave ( low lights) your targeted areas.
They will be able to test your hair further if needed

I use Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo and their 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner. Shampoo daily condition every other.

I may try looking round at other shampoos with less silican in them.

    Thanks

Can you recommend a good deep cleanser?

I may try hairdressing college as there is one locally, always been a bit scared of it going wrong but a friend's sister is learning there and she seems ok!

    Thanks
