ah, the old £99 Dell server again. This equates to £173.90 including VAT & delivery, and people should also note that this is just a base unit (designed purely for server purposes) and doesn't have sound or graphics cards, monitor, keyboard, mouse or operating system.

I agree with the above post, and the spec isn't that hot either; celeron 2.5, 256 mb, 80 gig harddisk...

Not sure if it is such a good deal.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Don't worry - it's a fantastic deal! I bought one of these last time round and we now use it as our main office server. Well happy.
Obviously you need to bump up the memory a bit but you're still well below £250 ex VAT. The deal is aimed at businesses who claim the VAT back anyway.
Why would you need a graphics card in a server anyway?
    Can I help?

you wouldn't. I was merely pointing out to people that it didn't have any of those things because when this deal has been offered previously many people have thought it sounded suitable (and cheap) to use as a desktop PC for their own home use. My comments were just so that people, who are not necessarily as computer knowledgeable as you, would know that it's not just a cheap PC.

No problem - I agree it's important to point out that this is a server and not much use as a desktop machine. Look for deals on the Dimension 3000s for those ;)

I got one of these last time and i just wanted to correct you slightly, it does have onboard video. One thing to note is it uses DDR2 ECC ram (server ram) which is more expensive than normal memory.

I use mine as a file server in my cupboard, running fedora linux, bargin :D
