Hotel or ideas for 40th Birthday

My partner is 40 in May and I am stuck for ideas as to what to do for him. I was thinking about taking him away or a romantic night but have no idea where to go. We both fancy Loch Lomond.

Anyone got any suggestions or can recommend any nice hotels in Scotland?

TIA

Cameron House is gorgeous. Have been there for a meal but not stayed in it. Is he a golfer? St Andrews is great according to my husband if he is a keen golfer. The other place is Airth Castle looks nice. It also depends on how much you want to spend.

Balloch house is an Innkeeper's lodge in Balloch, we stayed there just after NEw Year for £35 a night B&B the rates are normally more like £65 though. The room was nice but nithing startling, but the restaurant/bar downstairs is 16th century with 3 open fires and a really good menu and wine list with a nice walk along the Loch form the front door of the hotel. The boats that cruise the Loch leave from a point about 3/4 minss walk from the hotel.

Keep your money and go have high tea at Cameron House to get a feel for something special without the high bill?

The old coachworks down in Alexandria is now an outlet place, but the building itself is really interesting. Two birds with one stone effect.:D Enough shops to justify a visit, but not too many to waste a day in.;)

There's rates of £29.95 per night for two B&B during the week in May if you get the right date!

Lodge on the Loch near Luss is a fabulous hotel. The dining room has floor to ceiling windows over the loch and the food is fantastic. Some of the rooms have terraces or balconies overlooking the loch and also have saunas. Also got a pool but I didn't visit it.

Another nice romantic hotel is Creggans Inn at Strachur on Loch Fyne.

Our favourite hotel is Smiths at Gretna Green, it is an independent hotel and they make such an effort. The food is fantastic.
