How do I clean a rusty BBQ?

I'd use brillo pads (well cheapy equivalents) with a good bit of elbow grease0

Kim and Aggie's rust treatment in the past has been a blob of washing up liquid on half a cut potato. I've tried it myself and actually need to attack our BBQ with it cos it does work.0

I went to homebase today and a nice young man suggested a wire brush, so I've been having a go at it this afternoon with the brush and some stardrops for good measure. A hell of a lot of rust has come off, but it's far from looking silver, more of a dull grey. Anyway, I think I'm happy enough to cook on it now though.
I found that potato and washing up liquid thing when googling this morning and tried it, but nothing much came off - perhaps it might work better now I've scraped the majority of it off. I'll go and have another try.0 -
Hi all, I had a quick search and couldnt find anything applicable for this. I have a very bad habit of leaving my fire pit out for the elements to have a right old go at! As a result the metal racks are covered with rust. Please could someone shed any light as to the best way to remove this? Thanks very much0

I'm sorry I can't help - I actually clicked on this thread because I thought you had a rusty Barbie doll and I was intrigued as to how this came about :rotfl:
Hopefully someone will be along soon with a sensible suggestion for you!Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Oops! Perhaps I should have made myself clearer!:D
What cleaner should I use with the brush? It doesn't seem to want to come off with just water and elbow grease.0 -
Have you tried a brillo pad? I've found they're pretty good at getting bits of rust and burnt on food off bbq grills.0
