The problem with Glencoe, Cairngorm and Nevis is you have to pay to go up to the snowfields (in the chairlift, train or gondola) as there's rarely snow to car-park level. Nevis and Cairngorm have pretty decent facilities at the top of the gondola/train for visitors not intending to ski but both are outwith a 2 hour drive, Glencoe isn't quite so good in terms of what it has to offer the day-tripper up the mountain (though snacks/toilets are available and there's a restaurant at the bottom) but you could make it within 2 hours. Glenshee and Lecht when open for snowsports will have snow down to the car-park but neither are offering lift-served snow-sports at the moment so not sure what you'd find once you got there. Lecht is too far away for what you're after anyway. Glenshee would probably take you just over 2 hours but you could always phone the resort and ask what conditions are like. Beware of the roads though, there's snow forecast and conditions can get quite unpleasant. Road to Glencoe is much better/more likely to be open.
I'm sure there are other more accessible places where you could drive to to get at the snow - it's probably at fairly low levels today but I can't think where off the top of my head. :rolleyes:If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -

all roads seem to be open today but I did hear on the radio on Friday that quite a few were closed so you need to check tomorrow before you leave.0 -

Is there? Cool. Haven't managed up that way this season yet and had assumed that as reports have usually said it's not possible to ski down that far then there can't be much snow lying that low down. I stand corrected. :TIf I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0

Is there a hill where people go sledging near Aviemore that's not part of CML? I'm sure I've seen pictures of a field with lots of people and trees in the background but can't remember where it is. I think at CML the sledging area is at the top (hence costing money!) and the OP might be interested. If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
