hello, newbie here

hi eveyone,
just thought i'd introduce myself!

we had a bit of a lightbulb moment the other day. we are both 27 but just had not grown up financially and were trying to keep our heads in the sand! our debts aren't huge but it is getting to the point where we were needing to keep on getting more and more debt to cover the fines we were getting from our overdraft etc.

So we sat down when the kids were in bed and cut up our cash and credit cards! we have opened a second current accout with a SO of just our weekly budget into it. and contacted the CCCS. the pack arrived this morning for a Debt Managment Plan, and god it is scary!!!

we Owe about £4000 not an awful lot i know, but too much to be in control of for us, as we are at absolute full extension with our mortgage. my partners is the only full wage (i am applying for PT work now)

just need a to be told we are doing the right thing i guess!! i just don't want our kids to grow up having to turn the baliffs away from the door like i did as a child!!

hi all hope to speak to you all loads more!

Elly

Welcome MummyE, your definately doing the right thing and at least you are aware of your debts now instead of burying your heads further in the sand whilst the debt mounts up even higher. This board is full of so much helpful info and am sure you will receive lots of support. Check out some of the challenges on here for extra ways to make or save money.

Also people will ask you to post your statement of Affairs, so all money coming in and out over the months, its amazing what ways people can find for you to cut money.

    Good luck with it all.

There is a sticky at the top of this board which helps you write an SOA (statement of affairs).

Hiya - just wanted to pop on and say hello & welcome. :hello:

Good luck with finding a part time job. In the meantime, as others have mentioned, do feel free to post your SOA so we can see if we can make any suggestions.

    Love Snaggles x

The sooner you act the easier the remedy. An early lightbulb moment can be worth thousands on the long run and save untold grief.

    Well done for acting!

Welcome to the group MummyE :j :j

Of course you have done the right thing, you have realised you are having problems with money at only 4k debt which is alot sooner that alot of us did

It might help you to post your SOA for us all to pick a part and see what other savings you could make. I for one have sliced my food budget in half with tips from the old style board and even then we are not starving or even buying the cheapest of the cheap.

  • Hi there... New to the forum and need some advice. Wondering how far back a creditor can claim an unpaid debt? I thought there was a time scale to this.

After being overseas for 6 years, I received at my new address a letter in my maiden name for overpayment of housing benefit from 1999! The reason for them contacting me is due to being on Housing benefit at my current address but under my married name. It isn't a great deal of money but wondering if they are within the law to claim back that long ago? I hadn't even realised at the time there was any overpayment, so was doubly surprised to receive this letter.
