WSL : Barrs Irn Bru - 9 litres for £3 at Asda (well maybe)

I am not sure if this is the right thread to put this or not.
My OH was in Asda this morning to buy my usual Barrs Irn Bru - three 2 litre bottles for £3. He thought his luck was in when he noticed that some of the 2 litre bottles had 50% extra free. Obviouysly he picked up these bottles instead of the normal 2 litre bottles and went to pay the usual £3 for 9 litres.
Unfortunately it did not go through like this at the till and each bottle was charged at £1.32, so he took the bottles and receipt to customer services to point out their mistake but they said these bottles were exempt from the offer (at Barrs request). He took their word for it and didn't argue the case (I may be wrong) but I don't think this is right.
Surely if Asda are charging £3 for three 2L bottles and advertising it as such, it shouldn't matter if the Manufacturer has put 50% extra in - after all the extra 50% is FREE. How can it then be free if Asda are charging you more for these bottles than the 2L bottles without the 50% Free.
Maybe it was just my Asda that was being "jobsworth" but I would have thought this was against some advertising law or trading standards or something.

I was certain we had had this offer before - wasn't sure if it was Pepsi Max or Diet Coke. So what is the difference then? Can Barr's dictate which bottles are on offer and which ones are not?0 -

nothing quite like an irn bru the morning after a night on the tiles.A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.0 -

So technically, if Morrisons are advertising this on a leaflet - you could take this leaflet to Asda and get 12 litres for £3. They would price match the leaflet and you should be able to get the 50% extra free bottles instead (unless you go to the Asda at Maryhill in Glasgow who might say that Barrs won't allow it).0 -

The August 2005 leaflet doesn't advertise it.
The Anniesland branch have been running this since mid-June and IIRC its due to finish mid-September.

The 50% free bottles would have a different barcode on them which would not be linked to the offer.0

Asda had a similar deal on HP beans - 50% extra free, ie 6 tins for price of 4.
They were still on sisplay - well the packs I salvaged from the back of the counter - & went through as BOGOF, which was the deal that week.
I'd not accept the 'doesn't apply' excuse, or else you're simply NOT getting 50% extra free or NOT getting the alternative offer.
They should wothdraw one promotion, till stocks are cleared.
& don't even think of the brains behind Morrisons crisps... 2 packs 12 for £2, or why not have 3 packs of 6, instead? Still only £2!!
