Loss of earnings - Advice please

My partner was involved in a car accident that was not his fault, he suffered back injuries that kept him off work for a year, he has been back at work for almost a year but he is having trouble recovering his loss of earnings. His boss (now his ex boss) won't confirm his loss of earnings, for months he has tried to get confirmation but his boss does not return his calls and won't speak to him. I have been to see his boss myself and he promised to sort it out but said he had to seek legal advice first. It is now a month later and he is now avoiding my calls, his rude receptionist even hung up on me. We are at our wits end, my partner has spoken to Minster Law who are dealing with the claim but they have told us there is nothing they can do and that we just have to keep trying to get the confirmation. For some reason my partners boss thinks the insurance company will 'go after him'... He has also said that because my partner was not on a years contract there is no way of knowing that he would have kept him on, but Minster Law have said all they need confirmed is to what he was earning before the accident and how long he was absent. Does anyone have any advice please?

Sorry to hear he's been so unwell - must have been a huge smash.
Anyway - can you clarify whether your partner is/was employed or was he self-employed? If he was on a contract - was he working through a limited company which were effectively his employers? Either way - surely he has some kind of payslip which should prove what he earnt before the smash....then he just needs to prove that he wasn't able to do the same job as a result of his injuries - which supposedly a medical professional will testify to.
If he was self-employed then he'll perhaps have to show his accounts I presume to prove what he was earning - and these may show his income was minimised (for tax reasons), which won't go in his favour here.
Why do you need his exboss to prove what he earnt? Is there no document to prove it? Contract/payslip/invoice etc?
