As I survey all around me, I know I own everything I can see. Everything. Outright. I estimate to completely replace everything I own brand new would cost me no more than £1000. Max! More than likely I could do it for £600.

And you called me a peasant a few months ago? :rotfl:
In fact, I don't even remember it.
There's no shame in owning nothing. So long as you owe nothing.
Actually, I gave away and binned everything I owned 9 months ago. The lot. Decided I didn't want to put stuff into storage, I'd simply travel light and possess the bare minimum.
I am now renting (furnished) and don't see the point of buying things. I want things to be easy when I move from here ... because I have no idea when that would be, where to or why. I could do anything from relocate for a job, through to buying next door in 5 years. Anything can happen.
Right now, I can put everything I own in my one small car and relocate anywhere I want at the drop of a hat.0 -

I use the hotel loyalty cards for their points for my business trips, that gets me enough free stays to not need anymore from a CC from them. (try to stick to Hilton and the various Holiday Inn types for that as they are multi-national with loads of choice)
Don't collect airmiles.
I've never been in a hotel as posh as a holiday inn.
I guess if you are on regular business trips it can be worthwhile. But I've always had to have a sub from work for the money I was going to pay out on the trip.
I've never flown. I don't fly.0 -

However, I would point out I stated bank(s).
Plural.
Got accounts in most places now.
Although thinking about having an envelope of cash in the house in case things jam up for a week at any point.
Wouldn't need to be much. Just enough to keep ticking over while things sort themselves out.0 -

When I have been in jobs that put me in hotels they were always a travellodge or a kwality hotel and the bill was paid direct by the company. I had to pay for food usually, with a daily budget of £20, which tended to be £6 for breakfast, £5 for lunch, £9 for evening meal. But if you are going there and back in one day it'd just be about £6 lunch allowance.

Fair enough.
Tell you what.... don't get one of those cash back credit cards. Not worth your while.PasturesNew wrote: »I've never flown. I don't fly.

Jeez!
You gonna buy a bunker too?
Seriously, if "things jam up for a week" then having an "envelope of cash" ain't going to help. You'll be needing a large stick to beat your way through the hoardes trying to stockpile food and then you'll have to pay in gold.0 -

Inflation can seriously affect your savings ..., or "house prices can never fall" is replaced by "money value never fall" now? I would only rely on gold, Picasso paintings, own oil platform etc.All my life my mother told me the storm was coming (c) Terminator 30
