The End Is In Sight

The school holidays that is :D

Only 2 weeks to go now, Old Style has slipped slightly on the cooking front but I haven't resorted to any takeaways yet. I haven't been able to do any hobbies or even any baking as the kids get under my feet in my tiny kitchen.

I have however, embroidered the initials in all DS's socks, I have spent way under my usual on groceries because I refuse to go shopping with the kids and I haven't spent much on taking them out because I've taken advantage of all the free activities the council provided. However now the festival is over the free activities have finished, so tomorrow I am driving round the country looking for free fruit to make jam and chutney with.

Good luck to everyone trying to kill the last few weeks of the summer holidays :D

DD doesn't go back to school until the 12th of September for me!!!!! Fortunately on Monday SIL is coming to pick her up and take her off for a little holiday on the Cumbrian coast :j Then we'll go and get her at the weekend (with a stop-over there on the Friday). We'll no doubt waste the bankholiday weekend away as usual.

The following week we'll probably spend the time painting her dolls house and the final week of the holidays will probably be spent finishing off the workbooks she has and getting stuff together ready for school so filling the rest of the hols should, hopefully, be a breeze :D

I'm dreading mine going back to school - Love having them home.

We've really enjoyed these holidays, lots of cooking, crafts and relaxing.

DH is on holiday for these last 2 weeks, 1st week i'm working 2 days but they'll help me out. 2nd week we'll try and go away for a few days. The night before they go back to school we're taking them to a proper concert....first time they will have been to one...it's a full symphony orchestra with G4 the Xfactor group that came runners up last year.... My eldest rocketed our phone bill voting for them and is a huge fan......they'll be shattered for their first day at school but the experience will be worth it.

    Roll on half term!!!!

Just thinking about the same thing - it is a shame to waste these last couple of weeks. When it is half term a week seems like forever, and we do loads, however, the last weeks of the holiday seem to slip by unnoticed under the shadow of school! I am going to sit down and plan a few activities for certain days; luckily we live close to London, so a few galleries and museums (free ones!) might be on the agenda. Any suggestions gratefully received.

The end will be in sight a lot quicker if they carry on like tonight, DS has bent the leg on one of the new chairs I bought and DD2 has taken an hour to get ready for bed :(

They have both been packed off to bed very abruptly and I am sitting down with a bottle of wine that DD1 bought me after she got paid today :D

Peace now reigns in the moggins household.

This thread reminds me of just how isolated I am. As in where I live.

I didn't even realise the kids were on holiday!

    Maybe I should feel lucky?

Henhog...try the national portrait gallery.....we took dd's there last year - they were doing a workshop day.. We got to talk to an art director and got to go sketching around the gallery then back to their art workshops for some model making......dd's loved it (so did I , nearly made all my xmas's at once to be allowed "backstage" in the National!!!) Was all free and took about 3 hours.

I think most museums and galleries do something along these lines during the hols... The british museum had some african exhibit going on last week that you could go and have a go at but we didn't have time to explore it.

London is great for that sort of thing. Just a shame the train fare is so much from this end of Kent.

  • I love my two DD's being at home, although today they were really tired, grizzly and arguing with each other a lot. I feel like I really connect with them when we are are at home together, when they are at school we are always busy and they are taken up with their friends. Also I dont want them to go back to school because this also coincides witht the day that I go back to work...... No more time to cook, or sew, or browse on here as the site is blocked at work. Im looking very hard for a new job with less hours so I can have more time at home. I applied for a job 8 hours a week, sounds wonderful! OH didnt agree (thinking of the drop in income) but I ignored him!

I'm on school holiday myself. It always happens, I think Ooh six weeks, I'll do this, this and this.... Then suddenly it's Sept and I haven't done any of it!! LOL! It's just nice to get up late, enjoy breakfast, read the paper, and relax...........

Getting up late isn't an option here, I normally get woken up by the sound of them trying to kill each other :(

We're going out blackberry picking this afternoon, if I can get my awake head on, I'm just not sleeping with DH now doing nights :(

I was thinking of looking for a job in September but that's being put off now as I'm going to have my reconstruction done instead and as I won't be able to lift anything for a couple of months I shall be lazing at home instead.

  • Mine have already been back for a week......so for anyone ready to kill the kids, i have the answer....move to Scotland! lol

OS and money saving go right out the window when the kids are here but other than that i love having them at home.
Now theyve gone back though im putting my heart and soul into job hunting. After 14 years as a SAHM i REALLY want to get back to work. Ive been at college for the last 3 years and am finding it really hard now to stop in the house all day on my own, and we could really use the extra money at the moment....so heres hoping!
