Won a holiday - not!!

Phone call this evening telling me that I had won a Tenerife / Portugal / Spain holiday, giving me a reference number and a freephone number (0800 988 9900) to call.

They did tell me that it was from a survey run by getmeaticket. As they are on my list of people to avoid, I assumed that it must have been from when I started on the board last September, not knowing any better.

I searched the board and got some great advice, especially from divadee - ask if you have to pay an 'admin fee', and if you have to attend a 'presentation'.

Guess what - the answer to both is yes!

I stopped the call there and then.

I'm not too disappointed, as my suspicions were raised from the very start. I suppose the main reason for posting this is to make people who are not, aware of sites like this.

My list of sites that I steer clear of is below. I've posted it a few times before, but it is added to as and when compers mention 'bad' ones.

Any additions from fellow compers are welcome! icon14.gif

I have every sympathy with you , I had a call a few weeks ago telling me I had won a competition for a 5* holiday to Tenerife. I was delighted as I didn't think we could afford a holiday this year. The very chatty friendly lady told me all about the place and asked me if I wanted to accept my prize . I said yes and she cheerfully asked me if I had my credit card handy so we could "pop on" a £295.00 per person admin charge. For 4 people that is £1180.00. Funny how when I objected the lady suddenly became aggressive and very pushy. She tried to tell me that as I had agreed to the prize over the phone I was obligated to pay. I won't put in print what I said.
I have a good idea who the company was , I believe it to be a time share company that is well known for this sort of thing but I can't be sure.
I would never pay anymore more than a 2nd class stamp or a standard text mesage to enter a comp and if anyone asks me to pay to claim a prize in anyway then I would tell them to forget it.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Birmingham Childrens Hospital caring for my tiny and very poorly grandson who was born at 29 weeks. Thanks to them he is getting a little stronger every day.:A:A:A

They don't spam you but phone you up at all hours and are seriously big on the hard sell, and very rude too. They're hanging up on me at the moment.....

It all seemed to stem from a maths child tuition comp from My Child but I didn't enter that nor a lot of other people that have pestered by them. Definitely one to miss! If you do a search of My Child you'll see quite a few unhappy people. There was a post yesterday about them I came across yesterday that I added my pennies worth to, can't recall which one it was now.

Thanks - I'll add them to my list with a note. If they call back, just ask what they are wearing. If you're feeling really bold, enquire about their underwear. They get off the phone very quickly when you do that. :rotfl:

My sis got a call last Autumn saying she had won a holiday and she was so excited. Our mum had just passed away and the woman on the phone was all sympathetic, saying oh you poor thing, a holiday is just what you need, it will be great...etc....My sis hardly ever uses the pc, is not up to speed on holiday scams etc so completely believed her. Then she found out she had to turn up somewhere for a presentation and if she didn't turn up, she would be charged for the holiday! Hope that woman on the phone can sleep at night.....
