Just got Equifax credit file- a few debts are missing!

Hello peeps!

After quietly reading a lot of these 'debt-free wanabe' posts, I thought that I would check my credit file. (last time was 9 years ago)
So I pay £2 for the Equifax one.

Now, I am a bit confused at to why certain debts haven't shown up at all. I have been at my address for over 7 years now, so that was the only one that I put down. (that's all it asks for if you have been at the same address for over 6 years I think.)
There are 2 debts that I am currently paying off, one for an amount of £900 left, and another which is a CCJ with £220 left to pay. Why would they be missing? Is it worth asking them for the credit agreement thing (in that post with the 6years debt one) ? I find it strange that the CCJ isn't there- although I guess that I should be happy!

Also I had an old water bill that I never paid from an old address, and this hasn't shown up. It is after all 71/2 years old. (I still have the red letter!) It could be that the water company have my initial is J, when it's T- I have tried to rectify that, but they don't seem to bother, and they made the mistake in the first place. It's in my favour to not to keep on at them too! So I can understand why that may not be on my credit. If I was to contact the water people/vice versa and offer to pay/or not due to it being over 6 years, will any of that show on my credit file?

Other paid off debts haven't shown up neither, ie Etams store card closed in August 2003. Is this normal? My littlewoods one was on there, and that was closed in Nov 2004.

Also does anyone know if 'Q' (query) is a positive or negative, or neither?
Could someone also clarify what 'default' actually means? Is it that that is when the debt get passes on to someone else?

I'ld be really greatful for any advice or info on this, as I am quite miffed....

Oh, would all credit files on me be the same?

  • Firstly any defaulted debts ( i.e you have become more than 3 – 6, months in arrears on ) will only stay on your file for 6 years from the default date.

If the account had late payment history only but you closed it say today, then this info will stay on your file for 6 years from today.

With regards to the “missing” information I would strongly suggest that you hold of your Experian report also.

As a general rule more company’s use experian so you may well find differences between the two files.

    Hope this helps
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
  • Thanks. Will look into experian now. I choose equifax because it was spoken of more.

With the default, I got it Feb 2001, but am still paying that one off.... so I guess that it will take some time to go.

Am off to find the missing info, as it has to be there. I can't get a check book, other credit cards, or other things. So the info HAS to be there somewhere!

UPDATE: I've looked at my experian credit file, (in the free trial) and guess what? My CCJ and £900 debts aren't there! The water debt isn't mentioned neither. The store card one is though. I am amazed that this info is missing, as they have 'linked' addresses, which are correct.

Soooooo, does that mean that I don't have to pay these any more? (wouldn't that be nice) Where do I stand with it all?

Does anyoe know the name of that other credit file company? Begins with C I think.
  • Will Be "Call Credit", but at this stage they are very small and have VERY limted information, so would be surprised if the info is held by them.

With regards to "should I pay them" in theory there is nothing to stop the company’s adding this data at some point in the future, providing they submit the correct dates Ect.

so its up to you, do you take the risk and hope they don’t!!!!

Also you will have to decide if feel you have a Moral & legal obligation to honour your debts !
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
  • The thing is I am currently paying them and have been religiously! I did have a lot of grief over the CCJ one, as the company were a-holes, but they finally let me pay what I could afford and slapped a CCJ on me too. Can't rememeber details too well, but I think that they didn't play too fair, and added £183 on top for fun. I have £200 left to pay on that now.

I was going to approach both of these debts (missing ones) to see if they would take a lower amount in bulk ie % of debt to settle it (as on another post) , but am worried that that will stir things up now! Oh what to do!

Thanks for the info on call credit. I also found another post on them, and it seems that they wouldn't be worth it. So I won't bother with them.

I last looked at my Experian and Equifax reports 3 month ago - however I noticed that my Student loan was not on either of these files.

Shouldn't the Student loan make up part of your credit report? I have an "old style" mortgage loan so at least I have a definate date on when it will be cleared, even if I'm not required to pay it on my current earnings - it would be nice to have it on my report as I should be able keep up the repayments for 5 years without overpaying as I usually tend to do (just what someone wanting to sell me a loan would want to see right?).

What about current accounts (my Cahoot one was listed, but not IF or HSBC, yet my IF CC was)? Does it depend on the institution?... come to think of it, I don't recall the mortgage being on the reports... do mortgages go on credit reports?

Sorry Lovely.Cuppa.T if I'm hi-jacking your thread, but your query reminded me that my student loan was missing...

  • Tis okay websireowner. You did raise a valid question, as I too have student loans , 2 X 1year ones, @ approx £4500 each. They weren't on my credit files neither...... but I think that these can't be included as it's not credit for fun! What I mean is that is goes towards your education, and then the payments relate to wage earnings, so to put them down would confuse the credit system and may look bad on you for not paying it back.... (which is hard not to do, as it goes through your wages.)

If anyone does know the answers to these questions, or indeed has things missing like we do , them please add them on. It would be good to see how good these credit places are..... and what we can get away with.....
  • Right , update for you all.

CCJ's are held by the Register of County Court Judgements, and can be viewed under http://www.registry-trust.org.uk. For £4.50 you can do one check , and if you have the correct information.

This is also interesting: (from the FAQs)
    19. What advice do you give to claimants, plaintiffs or pursuers?
Follow these six steps if you want to reach the right person or company, making recovery of your money more likely and the registration more accurate and usable:

    1) An individual can trade as a business, but not as a limited company. So, “B.Wise t/a Wise Removals” is fine. But “B.Wise t/a Wise Removals Ltd” is incorrect.

    2) A limited company cannot trade as another limited company, nor can a firm trade as a limited company, but a limited company can trade as a firm.

    3) Wherever possible state the full forenames on the claim form; as a minimum the title and initials.

    4) State the defendant’s address on the form. A “care of” address, either at a place of work or at a solicitors will be ineffective even if the judgment is registered, since checks of the Register look at names and residential addresses over the past six years.

    5) If you use a PO Box address other than for a limited company, the judgment cannot be registered and enforcement will be difficult.

    6) Claims may not be delivered and judgments cannot be registered if no house name or number is given on the form.

Which may well answer why my CCJ isn't on my credit file, as the registry pass all info on to them. On my CCJ only 'Ms' is used and no forename or initial. Just my surname. I think though that I may have shot myself in the foot as I have put in for a search for it, and it may open a can of worms. I shall deny it to the end!

:rotfl: If my dad saw that he would probably go as white as a sheet wondering why they choose his name for the example (yes his inital is B too!) - Wise isn't exactly as common as Smith!

You are probably right about the student loan not appearing, shame really because I don't have to pay it back right now! I wonder if it's the same sort of reasoning behind why some of my current accounts aren't listed (ie they are common as mud!)
