Any suggestions for drying washing indoors

I'm thinking to get one of the old wooden ceiling pulley airers and having it in the wasted headroom bit above the stairs, completely out the way, so no washing all over radiators/house (which personally drives me bonkers). Can anyone see why that particular place would be a problem? x x
No it's not, mine is already up and running and I wish I had done it years ago. Even having the oven on sends heat upstairs and my washing dries overnight. it's the best thing I ever did. You can even hang sheets on it and it doesn't bump your head when pulled up to the ceiling. each rod is 7 foot so 28 ft of washing line and it's out of the way.0 -

I suggest you buy a lots more clothes and hoard them until the warm weather kicks in and then wash all at once, then theres no need to worry about cleaning them for now.0

We have a ceiling pulley in the kitchen which benefits from the hest of the oven and now the extra heat of the stove. I haven't used a tumble drier since the last one (which was a present) died 5 years ago. I line dry outside if I can but every night before bed the pulley is filled and the clothes are dry by the time we get up. I do have an old wooden concertina clothes horse which I use in front of the fire if I have lots of washing to dry but TBH even in winter, one load on the pulley at night covers it.0

My only other tip, if you can call it that, is that I have economy 7 heating, therefore I can dry a load of washing in my Tumble Dryer on the cheap rate, which untill the end of October is 1.45am up till 9.45am at around 12p a load, which in my mind is not bad as I only use it once or twice a week.0

Everyone should have one of these.

I have one of these
http://www.rotaire.com/
which, tho not as nice looking as the Shieling thing, is a fraction of the price. I wouldn't say it is quite the wonder kid the advert would have you believe, I bring the washing in dry enough to just air on the slats of the airing cupboard or on the airer in the conservatory. I have used my tumble dryer twice since this went on my line back in Marh - when i was a bit overwhelmed by a glut of holiday washing.
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's good, but not quite as good as the blurb. I did wonder if it's because I've had to get the funnel style, rather than the tent type. Still it's nice not to have to run outside at the slightest hint of rain:).Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

That's fine if you do it in the morning when you're up but the Fire Brigade REALLY don't recommend anyone putting on washers, dishwashers or tumble driers overnight. They are a major cause of house fires.0 -
I really miss the pulley I had in the hall of a top floor flat, the radiator was underneath and the only time you noticed the clothing was when I had sheets/duvet covers on it. In the summer I opened the bathroom window and left the door open and it all dried quickly. Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0
