Any suggestions for drying washing indoors

I'd love to be able to fit 4 airers in my living room. I think I could just about fit 4 of them if I spread them between the hall, bathroom, and living room but there wouldn't be much room to move! I've got two at the moment which I move around the flat depending on what room we're in at the time.
I'm loathed to dry anything in the bathroom at the moment as that's where our main "damp" problem is. We don't have a window in there, just an extractor which isn't really up to the job. Even our toilet cistern is constantly covered in condensation.
I don't have a laundrette nearby and as my car isn't running at the moment it kind of rules that one out.
I think I'm just going to have to clear the backlog at my parents and then give a rather generous donation of my OH's clothes to charity lol. That'll teach him!0 -
What a daft idea - we're supposedly being encouraged to be more 'green' nowadays, and yet you can't hang your washing outside.
I don't know what else to sugegst, really - I use mainly clothes airers but I have spare rooms to put them in so it's not a problem. I hope you manage to find a way around it.Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0 -
How about one of these? I used to love the one in the old house...

I specially had my new utility room designed with one of these in mine, had the inside of the sloping roof left open instead of having a ceiling fitted to get full height. You do need the extractor on as the back door gets loads of condensation on it. I haven't used my TD since Christmas."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. What about contacting the 'green' (don't know what this would be?) department of the local council and see if you can get someone on your side. Or could all the residents gang up on the landlord?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Ive had an electric de-humidifier for years and have never noticed any difference in my eleccy bills, and it does dry the washing somewhat.
I've seen somewhere (think Argos) that they do clothes airers that are heated and cheap to run. It just warms up the rungs that the clothes dry on. Might be worth a try.
Sorry if someones already suggested this..my computer seems to be running on slow and clicking on the links people have already suggested causes it to freeze completely. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. It's a new build isn't it?
I would get the builder back in to look at the fan in your bathroom.
Doesn't sound like it's up to the job, could be something simple or it could be underspec'd and need upgrading. Eitherway your bathroom shouldn't be that damp, particularly under the building regs.0 -

I have exactly the same problem as the OP. I fitted a new fan myself, one for a kitchen that sucks 270 l/min. I still get condensation on the cistern. I long for a window in there!!0 -
It really does sound like time for 'consumer action' where the landlord is concerned - but you all need to do it together to really get your point home to him! I don't understand how 'leases'/'buying' work out (being a humble HA tenant myself) - but would have thought that once you've paid your money up-front, then there isn't much he can do about it - obviously it's an area where you it's best to take some advice. Be interesting to know what his wife's reaction would be if he dictated to HER how to dry her laundry!
Politely, but firmly, point out to him that if he insists on indoor drying then it's eventually going to damage the building with the excess damp that will inevitably be caused. Maybe he will realise that there is a compromise to be reached somewhere along the line - after all he doesn't want a building full of disgruntled leaseholders who would all look to move on when their leases are expired!
Do you have those little airvents at the top of your double glazed windows? It's always best to make sure that those are kept open at all times - even in the winter months. When you have to dry indoors, those should be enough to prevent a build up of condensation in the rooms and on the windows themselves. If necessary open your windows onto their 'first' open position (the one that's like a 'security setting') as well - luckily the weather looks like it's beginning to pick up a bit now and the fresh air will be welcome.0 -
if your boyf changes that much, i would just take his clean stuff out the laundrey air it a bit on a hanger and put it back in the wardrobe.
And may talk to him about it??? get him to do the laundrey for a week or something??I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. Target 12/2020 :rotfl:
