Student Loan repayment threshold question
Comments
-
Earned income and unearned income from savings and dividends are taxable. They are all classed as income. So yes they count towards the threshold.0
-
but if your income from dividends is not paid monthly then you can suspend payments until the dividend comes. Folks paid with bonuses often do this.0

Can anyone tell me if you ahve deferred your student loan for longer than 14 years, whether your loan gets wiped out? Or is this a myth that I would like to believe in... Student Loans say they will demand the full amount from me in 3 years time (which will be 14 years) and other than paying for 6 years before I had children the loan stands at 1300 pounds. I took the loan out in 1996 when the rules were slightly different.0

hollyimo, it depends on your age. See here. If you are 50 in three years, it will be wiped. Otherwise you still need to keep deferring.
Unless yours was one of the loans that was sold a few years ago - you should have received a letter if that was the case (and the fact the SLC are still chasing you would indicate not).
Have you kept up to date with applying for deferments? If not and you haven't paid then I can't blame them for chasing you. If you have kept deferring then they have no right to claim the full amount all at once. Have you phoned to ask them what is going on?0
