    I've been Money Tipped!
I spoke to ACAS and they've told me that my original contract agreement still stands (1 month notice period) regardless of the fact my fixed term contract has expired.

I can't nogotiate and more from either my employer or potential employer. I suppose this is just life.

If sounds as if your current employer is being extremely unreasonable. Do you absolutely have to use them as a reference? I do agree that parting on bad terms is best avoided, however, I wouldn't lose another job over their lack of being reasonable. The fact that they renewed your contract for a second time suggests you did a good job for them. If you need to tell new prospective employers why you wont give them as a reference - explain the situation to them. I would start the new job on the 24th April. This gives more than enough time for your present employers and just do the best you can for them, during that time.

Unfortunately the law doesn't really seem to be on your side in this case. Read through your contract very carefully and see if there is anything in there which can be used to support your case for leaving earlier. Otherwise talk to your employer to try and come to some arrangement, they probably don't want you to leave as it makes it harder for them so just try and stand your ground.

Have you taken any leave in either of these three month periods? If not, you'd have some paid leave to take ... which would mean you could take it before leaving, IYSWIM.

Give one month's notice: "since I have two weeks' paid leave outstanding, my last date with your company will therefore be ..."
