in Cutting tax
I work full time earning roughly £26500. I am about to start driving a taxi for a friend which will be about one night a week. I told HMRC this when I spoke to them about Child Tax Credits but i'm not sure who else to tell and how to go about paying. As you may have gathered I do not know much about tax but wish to keep myself out of trouble when I drive the taxi. Is there anything else I should do??? Thanks for reading!

The Tax credit office staff are not trained in tax law so would not be the best people to ask.
If you are going to start working as a self employed taxi driver you need to register as self-employed with your tax office. You will then be sent tax returns to complete every year on which you will declare both your income from normal PAYE employment and your self-employment.
It would also be a good idea to set aside 20% of your taxiing income for your tax. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
