Mortgage withdrawals

We currently have our house on the market and are looking for a site to build on with the intention of extending our mortgage to do so until our house sells. We would then build on it. Are we mad in the current climate? How would the news of mortgage withdrawals effect us? We are on a 2 yr fixed rate that ends in August.
