bank records question

Am not sure where to put this but as it's associated with a "With profits Life Assurance Policy", decided to place it here.
This policy matured and was supposedly paid out in July 1994. but.....
Nobody in our family, can remember it being paid. So..... my question
How long do banks have to keep "Bank records" for, is it
6, 10 or 20 years ?
if we could find out, then we could go back to the bank and ask them further but nobody seems to know
I would be very grateful, for any advise / information
Thanks

6 years for the paper records. Statements go back to the decades.
Your problem is that a 1994 record is not going to be computerised. It is probably stored on microfiche and that will make any checks very time consuming for the bank and they are likely to put a charge in place to reflect that. You would also need to specify a date and amount for the bank to look for.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
If you have the relevant info for policyholder, address, maturity date and perhaps also policy number and NI number, they should be able to track it down quite easily.Trying to keep it simple...

Have most of the relevant info
policyholder, address, maturity date policy number
Not sure what you mean by NI number,
OR are you talking about the policyholders National Insurance number ?
And I take it you mean "they", are the bank in question ?
I take it that we will have to contact the banks HO to gain access to the microfiche bank details, we haven't had much luck at our branch ?
Thanks EdInvestor, cheers0 -

Yes to all those. The bank will have a section dealing with 'dormant accounts' and lost policies, look up their website it may tell you there.Trying to keep it simple...
