Hi,
I'm cooking for just me, and I am after some cheap meal ideas and receipes!!
I only have 1 drawer in the freezer of my houseshare so freezing portions is ok to an extent, but I really don't have much room!!
Please help - I'm desperately in debt and need to cut back!!
Thanks
Rhiannon

hiya Rhiannon :hello: it more often than not always works out cheaper to cook in bulk or for 4, is there any chance you could maybe team up with another/all of your housemates even just once a week and share the cost, or do what i did whilst in college and cook for eg a spag bol and really bulk it out cheaply then charge the others what the meal cost effectively giving you a free meal for a bit of effort
:shhh: we used to have hot dog nights and homemade pizza nights all for free for lil ol me :rotfl: i literally limped through college on a wing and a prayer oh those were the days
when i lived alone i tended to make just basic stuff like lasagne/cottage pie/curries etc have it for tea one night then for lunch the next day then freeze what was left make something else for tea repeat the process then drag the first frozen bits back out. these meals are of course inbetween the good old beans on toast and fried egg sarnie.
have a good root around squeakys indexed collections for inspiration, we are eating alot of lentils and beans at the mo to keep my grocery bill down...we had chickpea n potato curry for tea,was delish and cant of cost more than £1 for 4 portions.proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0 -
I cook for myself and usually make a large dish of lasagne, fish pie, curry, bolognaise or whatever and that'll give me between 4 and 9 portions for a cost of around £5-6.
I always start by looking in the reduced secion of the supermarket. Sometimes they pretty much give things away.
I generally cook from scratch, though I do like the discounted Pizza Express pizzas at Sainsbury's and their Quiches. Vegetables, pasta and rice are cheap.Happy chappy0
