Capquest contacted me out the blue, plz help

Hello, im new to the forums and i really appreciate any help or advice regarding this matter.
I will try to give as much info as i can.
Last week i recieved a random letter from Capquest demanding payment of almost £200 on behalf of Littlewoods finance company, there was an account number on the letter also (this may be relavent later).
I basically ignored the letter then today i recieved a VERY rude phone call from Capquest demanding i make payment to them, during this conversation i was called a liar for denying any nowledge of the debt and was also told (and i quote) 'dont try and tell us youre the victim of fraud, weve heard it all before'.
Well, i dont know anything about any debt from littlewoods, or anyone else for that matter, i did however have an old catalogue account with littlewoods that i settled the outstanding balance with last year in June.
I called Littlewoods and they know nothing about any debt and nothing about Capquest contacting me, but i must stress i phoned the catalogue department, i was later told that debt may be a from a different section and not neccesarily form the catalogue section, IE credit card (but ive never had a credit card with them).
I then called Capquest back again and again was brandished a liar, i was told that no proof = me owing them = im a liar, i told them that Littlewoods have confirmed to me that i owe them nothing but Littlewoods would not contact Capquest to tell them this as they dont see that they need to, as far as they are concerned i owe them nothing and have no business with them.
The account number on top of the letter that i recieved from Cpaquest is unrecognised to Littlewoods, they dont know what number its for, they did say it may be for a credit card or other account but i dont know how to find out about this.
After i told Capquest that i had paid (in full) my old account with Littlewoods last June i was told that i was again lying because on their (capquests) system it shows that i made a payment of £100 to Littlewoods in August 2007... i have not made any payments to Littlewoods since June 2007 and it was not for £100, it was for £50 and i also looked thru all my bank statements for August 2007 and there is no mention of any payment of £100 (or similar amounts) made to Littlewoods (or anyone else) during that period whatsoever.
Please help, i dont know what to do.
Capquest says i owe them money, Littlewoods say i dont, the 2 wont communicate to each other, and im worried this wont go away....
Please help.
Thankyou, Paul.

they have to prove you owe the money . its not for you to prove you do not owe them.
sadly the minuite you rang them you acknowledged the debt with them "in there eyes" and thefore they believe it gives them free reign to treat you badly .
I would refuse to speak to them on the phone again and only write to them in future declaring you do not acknowlege the debt .
they are a noitoriosley bad company for this kind of thing and i woudl advise you to searech other posts

From what I've read on here, they need to prove that you owe this money by producing a CCA signed by both you and the creditor.
I'll find a thread with a template letter on and bump it up for you.Debt free in 2010
£6551.35 paid so far.
This WILL be my debt free year! :T0 -
Paul
As a start, please STOP ringing crapquest. All you are doing is giving them opportunities to haress you and setting yourself up as a good bet in their eyes.
it is not unknown on here for DCAs to chase the wrong person for the debt or for them to chased debts that are unenforceable in law because they have not been acknowledged in the last 6 years.
Since you do not have a clue what this is about, the best thing will be to either send for the CCA relating to this alleged debt, or to send the general "what are you on at?" letter.
Given what has already happened, I would suggest combining this with the telephone letter, demanding all further comms in writing. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

That's the template from C.A.G.
Fill in your details along with a £1 postal order. DO NOT sign the letter. They then have time limits to adhere to in sending you proof of your alledged debt.Debt free in 2010

Or the what are you talking about letter, which might be more appropriate since the debt may not be covered by the CCA
National Debtline have a generic "bog-off until you prove that I owe you anything letter".
Can be adapted to suit.

Dear Sir/Madam
Account No: 4563210025897412
You have contacted us regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by ourselves.
We would point out that we have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to The Loan Company.
We are familiar with the ‘Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance’ which states that it is unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.
We would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable. In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.
Furthermore, ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.
We would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above accounts unless you can provide evidence as to our liability for the debt in question.
We await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed. Otherwise we will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.
We look forward to your reply.
Yours faithfully
Mr A N Other
Thanks fermiIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
It has been repeated several times on many threads , DO NOT PHONE THESE COMPANIES ! once they have your number they never stop . You only write . My advice on these letters recieved is to write back not confirming any details just use the ref number they use . State you have no knowledge of this so called account and tell them to check the details !0

Thankyou all, i will write to them requesting proof of any monies supposedly owed.
Littlewoods failure to assist in all this has not helped at all, if only they could tell Capquest that i owe them nothing, it would all be over.0
