Laithwaites and me.

Options
About 3 months ago I ordered a crate of wine from Laithwaites, no complaints there, it was on offer at a knockdown price, it was in a post somewhere on the MSE boards, it was very enjoyable too. Today I received another crate of wine from Laithwaites which I have NOT ordered, it just came out of the blue, so to speak....I am wondering if anybody else has had this experience, do I keep it??, I have not paid for it, I checked my CC account online and no transaction has been made, there is no invoice with the wine, no paperwork at all. What shall I do with it.???

Congratulations!! They are unsolicited goods, which means that you may keep them as an unconditional gift. You do not have to notify them, and it is an offence for them to demand payment. Enjoy!!! But do remember to pace yourself, dear!!

You will probably find that your initial 'bargain' case was an introduction to their 4 seasons wine program. They will send you a case every 3 months (which they will charge you for). They will have included details of the next case with your original. This is a completely no-obligation service and you can cancel at any time (just phone them up). I am a member of 4 Seasons and the charge for the wine normally comes through about 2-3 days after receipt. If you don't want it, phone them and they'll take any undrunk bottles back.

You can stay a member and simply 'elect' not to receive cases as they inform you of their contents.

I suggest that you phone them up and ask if they have you down as a 4 Seasons member otherwise you will be spending circa £54 on a case of wine every 3 months which you will have agreed to by ordering the original case (therefor the goods are NOT unsolicited).

    Hope that helps.

This is the response that I shall act on immediately, thank you.

P.S. Done and dusted, just got off the phone to Laithwaites, the wine will be picked up and returned within the next 4 working days.
