Limited Company accounts - How long to keep records for?

Used to own my own business, a limited company, which was wound down in 2004. Have a cabinet full of old company accounts and paperwork etc. Want to get rid of unwanted paperwork. How far back/years must i keep copies for?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    Hello,

I dont know if this helps but HMRC keep records for 6 years before destroying them, so I would say the same for taxpayers.

  • You need to keep them for at least 6 years.By the way, your public liability insurance should be kept for 40 years! This is because people can still put in claims years later....think asbestos related claims from exposure years ago.
