CIFAS on my Experian Report

I got my experian credit report through - and everything's fine except there's a "CIFAS" on it. It's dated Aug 07, and it's for someone else at an address I lived at 3 years ago. I called the relevant omapny who told me it can't be taken off - but that it will be ignored by companys when they do credit checks as it's blatantly not me. Is this true?

Its not a credit check so has no impact on credit.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

mate,
have you spoken to experian - they are really helpful.
My sister-in-law regularly appears on my credit report as we have the same first and surname which really seems to confuse companies, but experian have got it all sorted out for me.It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know0 -
It probably means any applications made by yourself are more likely to be looked at by an underwriter than not. Although sometimes that's a good thing. What category cifas is it? There should be a number. 0, 1 & 2 might mean that you'll get asked some security questions to confirm your identity when applying for credit. 3-8 I wouldn't worry about at all.0

5 Conversion - Conversion (disposal or sale) of goods (to which the hirer/buyer does not have title) under a hire-purchase, conditional sale, contract hire, leasing or rental agreement
6 First Party Fraud - Opening an account or other facility for a fraudulent purpose, or the fraudulent misuse of an account or facility

8 Insurance Claims Fraud - The making of a claim(s) under one or more insurance policy(ies) with one or more material falsehoods or by presenting a false or forged document0 -

Yes Yorkshireboy, I am sure. As the OP stated the Cifas was not in his name categories 3-8 shouldn't be a problem. However as 0-2 relate to identity fraud, even if they're not in the customer's name, it's something for lenders to worry about and that's why i mentioned additional checks may be needed.0 -
Hi
I have a cifas cat 4 on my credit because of the godiva bank say that may income and employee details are incorrect or false. I have been told by a number of people that i just have to ride it out and deal with it for 13 months until it drops off.
Does anyone no first of all if it does definitely stays on for 13 months and second of all how they come up with the assumption that I have told untruths when it comes to my employment?0 -

This is an old post but thought I would reply anyway.
Basically a Cifas cannot be registered without first confirming the information supplied on the credit application is false. This must be done without doubt. I would always reject a Cat4 application from my team if it was not 100% confirmed falsehoods.
EG. I work for Asda as a lorry driver.
They call the number supplied on the application. The Asda HR dept confirm you left Asda employment. And that you left before the application was made.
As for declaring your income is false this is unlikely! I know of no company that would register a Cifas for this reason as it is very to difficult to prove, even with payslips.
13 months is 100% correct, however the company who registered the Cifas can grant an extension if it is deemed fit to protect the industry. This will not happen in your case unless you make repeat applications to the same finance house.
You have the legal right to request from the company who registered the Cifas all information held by them pertaining to you. Call them requesting this, it will contain notes from the underwriter/Fraud analyst that will explain how they confirmed fraud.
May cost you £15 though, you will do much better in court if they registered wrongly!!!
The Baroness's information is also acurate.
If anyone has Cifas questions please feel free to PM me.0
